The Role:
Reporting to the Characterization Lead, Moderna is seeking a Scientist for a position based at their Norwood, MA site. This lab-based role will be responsible for particle characterization and forensic investigations of particulate matter, supporting Modernas portfolio. The position lies in a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary environment and covers pre-clinical, clinical, and commercial development This position requires exceptional time management and communications skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to carry out laborious experimental protocols.
A breadth of knowledge of analytical tools and techniques as it relates to particle characterization for both visible and subvisible particle characterization in the pharmaceutical industry is required. He/she will have hands on experience with techniques routinely used for detection and analysis of particles (submicron, subvisible, visible) and chemical identification of particulate matter (separation methods, microscopy, light obscuration, light scattering, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, SEM-EDS, LIBS). He/she will evaluate new technologies and develop fit for purpose analytical assays.
Heres What Youll Do:
Development of novel characterization methods and experimental protocols to characterize both visible and subvisible particles to support process development and formulation design.
Develop and be abreast of new technologies to aid in forensic assessment of particles
Define, design, execute analyze experiments for particle characterization for in-process intermediates, drug substance, drug product or raw materials.
Compile experimental and analytical results, perform data interpretation, summarize, and report on data with conclusions and recommended next steps
Provide technical representation and subject matter expertise (SME) in cross-functional formulation, process, and analytical investigations
Interface extensively in a matrixed environment with the process and analytical development teams for process investigation support, assess new analytical technologies, support ongoing process characterization and post-approval changes.
Maintain accountability for results delivery.
Draft reports to support of batch release/disposition
Present results at internal meetings
Work with limited supervision in a collaborative, fast-paced environment to solve complex analytical challenges
Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:
PhD with at least 2 years of industry experience, or MS with at least 6 years of industry experience (Biophysics, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Forensic or related science)
Exceptional organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to thrive in an interdependent and idea-rich environment
Expertise with microscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, and elemental characterization/ID
Familiarity and experience with forensic type analyses
Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
Ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
