Job Details

The Associate Director, Scientific Communications and Training - Aesthetics, leads the development and implementation of industry-leading training and scientific education for the Medical Affairs organization. He/she will plan and develop key scientific training resources and tools, including product and disease state modules and related content across multiple therapeutic areas/products. He/she will also provide an advanced level of scientific/clinical review of MSL related training resources and tools for accuracy, consistency, and inclusion of most recent clinical/scientific data/information and will be responsible for leading the planning for all scientific training activities (new hire curriculums, launch training, webinars, and other ongoing scientific training initiatives).  The associate director will also provide scientifically rigorous training, competency assessment and ongoing development to MSL team members for the purpose of achieving and maintaining expert level scientific knowledge competencies in multiple disease states and products. The scope of the role will include support of both US and International teams. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development of the Global Medical Affairs medical content and training strategy for new hire onboarding, advanced training, and continuous training in Aesthetics.  Work with Global Sci Comm, Medical Affairs, Medical Excellence and other cross-functional partners to ensure ongoing MSL training and field resource content is aligned and consistent with the medical strategy.  Partner with Medical across regions to assess gaps in knowledge, content, and skills and ensure medical content and training deliverables address prioritized capability needs. 
  2. Lead development and delivery of scientific training content related to disease state, treatment landscape, and approved/investigational products in collaboration with MSL TA Leads, Medical Directors, and Sci Comm content leads. Educational materials and training initiatives include (but are not limited to) training modules, interactive workshops, distance learning, podcasts/videos, blended approaches, and virtual learning.  Be responsible for training of new hires as well as ongoing scientific training needs related to new data, emerging products, and field tools. Reviews literature and competitive intelligence reports to ensure MSL team scientific content and training is current and ahead of scientific community. Develop varied scientific training pathways with modified content to train team members with diverse roles to meet role-specific scope and depth of scientific training. Maintains a "single platform" approach to all scientific content.
  3. Lead the process for assessment of US and International MSL scientific knowledge and competency by developing assessment plans and conducting oral presentation and written product competency assessments in conjunction with MSL Management. Ensure that scientific training/assessments are appropriately and consistently documented. Capture feedback on the learner experience (utilization, knowledge transfer and application) to identify needs for updates/modifications/enhancements and inform plans for future needs.
  4. Explore and incorporate innovative learning techniques and modalities to address business needs.  Work in close collaboration with other training functions (Medical/Medical Excellence, Clinical/R&D, HR) to ensure best in class training.
  5. Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge of aesthetics medical information, techniques, appropriate medical approaches, competitive landscape, and patient outcomes.  Independently provide an advanced level of strategic development and scientific/clinical review of resources and tools for accuracy, consistency, and inclusion of the most recent clinical/scientific data/information across multiple product portfolios
  6. Maintain on-going communication with therapeutic area peers in Medical Affairs and other relevant functions to ensure alignment of materials with departmental and business strategies.  Has accountability for the sound representation of the medical position within and external to AbbVie and demonstrates adherence to medical guidance and standards.

Qualifications: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Education:  Scientific / medical / clinical education required.
  • Licensure/Credentials:  R.Ph., PharmD., Ph.D., R.N., M.D.
  • Experience:  at least 5-7 years of previous MSL or related pharmaceutical industry experience; Medical    affairs and training experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Pharma medical affairs, regulatory and compliance guidelines.
  • Strong scientific background and the ability to critically review and analyze scientific literature and and effectively distill and communicate key information.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills and creative and strategic thinking required.
  • The ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and interface in a dynamic and fast-paced environment across departments.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record to deliver high-quality projects while meeting timelines.
  • Advanced PowerPoint and design skills.
  • Aesthetics experience preferred
