Job Details

We have an exciting Summer Lab Intern opportunity in Antibody Discovery. This is a 10-12 week hands-on summer Internship located at our Headquarters in Emeryville, California. We are starting an internal project to discover antibodies against ion channels. Ion channels are difficult targets, and several different approaches will be evaluated to obtain these antibodies from chickens.

The Intern will immunize chickens by several routes with ion channel Kv1.3 protein and/or mRNA and evaluate the best route by monitoring the serum for titer. They will also harvest B cells from the chickens and screen individual B-cells for antibodies to Kv1.3. Antibodies will be cloned and expressed to evaluate antigen specificity and affinity.

About Us:

OmniAb consists of dynamic and innovative scientists that employ a variety of novel platforms to support our partners in discovering next generation therapeutics. At the core of OmniAb is the ability to engineer animals to generate affinity matured human sequence antibodies for use in conventional and novel therapeutic formats. We leverage our proprietary animals with state-of-the-art technology in antigen design, immunization methods and high-throughput single B cell screening to facilitate discovery of best-in-class antibodies. Within OmniAb are also best-in-class capabilities for the discovery and screening in high value ion channel and transporter targets. We are looking for accomplished team players who are enthusiastic to contribute to the technological frontier of drug discovery, contribute to improving human health, and passionate in their desire to collaborate with partners to develop next generation therapeutics. See OmniAb.com for more details about the exciting science being performed at OmniAb.

This summer you will:

  • Deliver serum titer evaluations and the characterization of cloned antibodies, using a variety of methods, tools, and instrumentation that you will have to master.

  • Learn immunization methods, how to evaluate serum titers using Elisa and flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, B-cell screening, PCR, DNA cloning, mammalian cell transfection, and various methods of antibody characterization.

  • Have the opportunity to use state of the art equipment.

  • Learn to use Genedata databases and Benchling electronic notebooks.

  • Receive supervision every day to guide and evaluate the progress.

  • Have plenty of opportunities to step away from the bench at least once a week to discuss weekly goals, making sure they are met, and to outline the steps needed to meet future goals.

Requirements:

  • Current Undergrad or Masters; Masters preferred in Biochemistry, Biology, Immunology

  • Must be 18 years or older to apply

  • Ability to multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment

Company

OmniAb, Inc.’s discovery platform provides pharmaceutical industry partners access to diverse antibody repertoires and high-throughput screening technologies to enable discovery of next-generation therapeutics. At the heart of the OmniAb platform is the Biological Intelligence™ (BI) of our proprietary transgenic animals, including OmniRat®, OmniChicken® and OmniMouse® that have been genetically modified to generate antibodies with human sequences to facilitate development of human therapeutic candidates. OmniFlic® (transgenic rat) and OmniClic® (transgenic chicken) address industry needs for bispecific antibody applications though a common light chain approach, and OmniTaur™ features unique structural attributes of cow antibodies for complex targets.

We believe the OmniAb animals comprise the most diverse host systems available in the industry and they are optimally leveraged through computational antigen design and immunization methods, paired with high-throughput single B cell phenotypic screening and mining of next-generation sequencing datasets with custom algorithms to identify fully human antibodies with superior performance and developability characteristics.

An established core competency focused on ion channels and transporters further differentiates our technology and creates opportunities in emerging target classes. OmniAb antibodies have been leveraged across modalities, including bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates and others.

The OmniAb suite of technologies span from BI-powered repertoire generation to cutting edge antibody discovery and optimization offering a highly efficient and customizable end-to-end solution for the growing discovery needs of the global pharmaceutical industry.
