Job Description
The Director of Change Communications will play a key role in aligning Gilead employees behind improved ways of working -- a strategic priority for the company as we strive to remove barriers to execution. This individual will develop and lead a change communication strategy for the Gilead Development organization, providing internal communications guidance and support for a number of critical, cross-functional change initiatives. In addition to working closely with Gilead Development leaders to shape change management strategies, this individual will be responsible for telling the change story across the function, designing appropriate internal campaigns to drive awareness and adoption of change at both the macro and micro levels.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Development Change Management and Communications, this role will focus on building and delivering a communications strategy that supports desired shifts in mindset and behavior. The role also will partner with the global communications team to align messaging and leverage enterprise channels to create and share a unified story.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
The salary range for this position is: $181,645.00 - $235,070.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.

- Develop a structured change management and communications methodology across Development, aligned to the Gilead strategy and functional goals
- Utilize existing communication channels and create new ones to tell the change story and ensure change efforts are consistently communicated across key internal stakeholder groups, creating an overarching sense of urgency and excitement for change
- Provide communications support for individual change initiatives, working with Project Management to execute change management plans and prioritize areas of focus
- Make resource recommendations, as needed, to execute change management and communications plans
- Develop ways to gather employee feedback across change initiatives to ensure change management strategies are taking hold
- Partner closely with Gilead Public Affairs and Development Communications colleagues, contributing interesting and relevant content for Gilead-wide internal channels
- Develop a deep, intuitive understanding of Gilead's business, specifically the Development organization, to provide the best possible strategic counsel to leaders and their teams, and to anticipate their communications needs
- Consistently stay aware of current and relevant trends in communications, such as person-first and anti-racist language
- Together with the team, constantly push for new ideas, better platforms, new ways of connecting with employees; understanding what's coming next, bringing these ideas to Gilead and interpreting them in a way that works for our audiences
- Build and maintain networks within Public Affairs, Development, and other areas to better understand the needs and sentiment of the employee population
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- BA/BS or MA/MS in communications, change management or related fields with 14+ (BA/BS) or 12+ (MA/MS) years of related experience
- Passion for and experience guiding large, complex organizations through change, preferably for a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company
- Curiosity for continually learning new skills and knowledge, even when their application to the work at hand is not always immediately clear
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills
- Demonstrated executive presence, ability and ease working with senior leaders
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and agencies
- Skill for managing multiple, high-urgency projects simultaneously; flexibility is essential
- Strong project management capabilities
- Understanding of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company
- Change management certification or designation desired
- Prior people management experience preferred
