Director, Income Tax

The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Director, Income Tax, to join our team. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for income tax accounting during the preparation and filing of the company's income tax returns and related compliance activities, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, and providing strategic tax planning guidance to senior management. The Director will work in close partnership with the FLT members and other business leaders to ensure the company's tax obligations are met and optimized.

This role reports to the SVP, Global Tax, and is located in Modernas Cambridge, MA offices.

Heres What Youll Do

• Oversee compliance of income tax reporting and effective tax quarter close processes by collaborating with diverse global tax and finance teams, including external auditors

• Manage the company's tax accounting and reporting processes, including the calculation of the company's effective tax rate and the preparation of tax footnotes for financial statements

• Research, analyze and interpret existing and proposed guidance with respect to income tax accounting, to identify the practical implications and clearly and concisely conveying results

• Analyze effective tax rate drivers in a dynamic environment and provide education and training to key stakeholders, including other members of the finance team

• Provide insight and guidance on ASC 740 income tax accounting as subject matter expert for the company

• Provide guidance on effective tax rate implications related to business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and other strategic initiatives

• Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations, assess their impact on the company, and assure that effective tax rate implications are embedded in all tax planning strategies

• Engage in open conversation with stakeholders in different disciplines, including Controllers, FP&A, Treasury, and Investor Relations, to ensure accuracy and timeliness of income tax reporting in its financial statements and press releases

• Partner with tax and key stakeholders on special projects, expanding your network in and out of tax by driving prioritization and process improvements in tax accounting

• Collaborate with external auditors and manage the income tax provision process

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• CPA required

• 12+ years combined experience in income tax and/or accounting in a public accounting firm or large, multi-entity corporation

• ASC 740 Income tax accounting experience

• Experience with purchase accounting rules under U.S. GAAP

• Strong organization, prioritization and communication skills

• Ability to communicate complex tax information in a clear and concise manner

• Experience with application of technology and automation platforms (Alteryx, Dataiku, PowerBI, Tableau, Python) in tax environment

• Advanced education or certification such as MBA, CPA, or MBT
