Description

Codexis, a biotech enzyme engineering company, is looking to hire a Director of External Manufacturing!  This position is part of the Internal Manufacturing department and will be located in Redwood City, CA.

Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging our proprietary CodeEvolver® technology platform to discover and develop novel, high performance enzymes for three healthcare industry pillars: pharmaceutical manufacturing, life sciences, and biotherapeutic discovery & development. The enzymes we produce aim to solve real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing, nucleic acid synthesis and genomic sequencing, and - as biotherapeutic candidates - they have the potential to treat challenging diseases.

To meet this goal, we look for individuals who are driven, eager to grow and ready to embrace meaningful challenges. We empower employees to be authentic, ambitious, agile and have the courage to take action where they can make a positive impact. Whether you are driven by science, or a different area of expertise, we need you to help us create a brighter future.

Come join us on this journey and mission of making the world a safer, healthier, and better place!

About the Opportunity: We are seeking to hire a highly motivated technical leader with business and project management acumen to join our team as Director, External Manufacturing. The role will involve ongoing maintenance and alliance management of an existing partnered supply chain but, more importantly, the scouting and set up of multiple new relationships as Codexis broadens the scope of its partnered manufacturing activities.  If any of the below describes you, we would love to meet you!

·       Do you enjoy leading cross functional project teams to solve technical and business challenges in support of sustaining and expanding production capacity?·       Do you enjoy building internal/external partnerships?·       Are you passionate about manufacturing products with the ability to improve the quality of life, in diagnostic and therapeutic applications?
In this role you will:
  • Own and manage all relationships with external manufacturing partners, ensuring strong inter-company cooperation between technical, operational, quality and regulatory teams.
  • Work with business and operational leaders to define future manufacturing requirements and identify, screen and select external partners with appropriate capabilities.
  • Screen and onboard new C(D)MOs, including management of the RFP, negotiation and contracting processes, in close collaboration with the legal and commercial teams.
  • Project manage technology transfer projects to external development and manufacturing partners, coordinating resources from both inside and outside Codexis to ensure scope is well understood and deliverables are met, on time and budget, and that products are manufactured appropriately to enable successful commercialization.
  • Work with external partners to evaluate costs of both up front technology transfer projects and ongoing production for new projects to support business case evaluations.
  • Work closely with program management, process development and business teams to drive on-time completion of external scale up projects and commercialization of Codexis products.
  • Prioritize external resources and projects to best meet project deliverables and once executed, manage smooth handover of commercialized products to the Supply Chain and Fulfilment team.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial leaders and product/program management to ensure the external manufacturing supply is right-sized and has the right capabilities to appropriately mitigate supply chain risks and support the medium to long term growth of diverse businesses within genomics, nucleic acid manufacturing and pharmaceutical small molecule manufacturing.
  • Work with Codexis subject matter experts in HSSE, Quality and Regulatory to ensure the safety, security, quality and regulatory compliance of selected contract manufacturers, including ensuring appropriate agreements are in place to manage and maintain such compliance.

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in the Life Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in the Life Science or Pharmaceutical industries.
