Codexis, a biotech enzyme engineering company, is looking to hire a Senior Pilot Plant Bioprocess Engineer!  This position is part of the Internal Manufacturing department and will be located in Redwood City, CA.

In this role you will:
  • Ensure pilot plant is maintained in a functional and calibrated state. Includes assuring timely scheduling/performing of preventive maintenance and maintaining calibration schedule of equipment.
  • Oversee technical support for ongoing manufacturing production equipment and processes, leading efforts to troubleshoot issues.
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of production problems with specific responsibility for evaluating product quality impact.
  • Develop and maintain KPI for plant robustness and to report on plant performance.
  • Lead technical improvements for processes (Kaizen and 6 Sigma focused) through collaboration with on-site teams to monitor and manage critical process performance in the facility, including interaction with Operations, Maintenance, Safety and Quality
  • Lead equipment installation and project engineering, working with vendors, experience with plant utilities, automation & controls is critical.
  • Author engineering drawings, schedules, budgets, equipment datasheets, process SOPs and Process Safety Reviews among other deliverables.
  • Draft, review and approve CAPAs, and change control requests, deviations and executing planned qualification protocols.
  • Comply with Safety policies, Quality policies and procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and manufacturing documentation.
  • May require Provide 24/7 support for critical production processes.

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline required (Master’s preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of Biotech process development and/or manufacturing process engineering experience required.
  • 6 Sigma and/or Kaizen experience a plus
  • Knowledge of cGMP and pilot scale manufacturing equipment and practices highly desired.
Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:
  • Strong knowledge of fermentation systems and recovery unit operations
  • Design & troubleshooting of process such as bioreactors, centrifugation, homogenization, ultrafiltration, lyophilizer.
  • Ability to work with management to implement improved and new operational procedures focusing on implementation of Kaizen and 6 Sigma principles where feasible.
  • Must be motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills, documentation, organization, good record keeping, writing reports and SOPs.
  • Organized, capable of detailed planning and able to meticulously follow operating procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and tidy lab environment.
  • Able to work effectively within a team environment providing both leadership and mentoring.
  • Operates with a high level of safety awareness and attention to detail.
CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City or San Carlos, CA is $135,000 to $157,500. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states​.
