Job Details

AltPep Corporation is a biomedical startup based along Seattle’s Lake Union focused on developing early disease-modifying treatments and detection tools for amyloid diseases by targeting one of the earliest molecular triggers – toxic soluble oligomers. These toxic oligomers are associated with many diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and type 2 diabetes.

AltPep draws its origins to Dr. Valerie Daggett’s lab at the University of Washington’s Bioengineering Department. The company closed a significant round of financing in late 2020 and is currently seeking to expand at its headquarters located on the North end of Lake Union in Seattle.

We are looking for talented Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be an intellectually curious and creative individual that is comfortable in both research and development laboratory environments and in a CLIA (LDT) laboratory. We are looking for a problem-solver who is comfortable with a cross-functional role. The main focus of the candidate’s responsibilities will be on ELISA-like diagnostics technologies. This is a cross-functional position and will see strong overlap between CLIA and research and development.

The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Helping to develop standard operating procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of test results

  • Helping to implement laboratory quality program

  • Assist in validating new diagnostic tools

  • Following the laboratory's procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of test results

  • Following the laboratory's quality control policies

  • Documenting all quality controls activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance

  • Identifying indicators that may have an impact on test performance or reporting of test results and either making corrections or notifying Lab Director

  • Ordering, receiving, and distributing laboratory stock as needed in laboratory and treatment area

  • Understanding accreditation checklists (such as CPA checklist) and being able to perform all duties on the checklists associated with the position

  • Assisting in regulatory and compliance audits

  • Adhering to safety policies as defined by Patient First and OSHA

  • Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • 2 years clinical laboratory experience in a CLIA high complexity laboratory

    • Experience in assisting in audits from accrediting bodies such as the College of American Pathology (CAP) or the equivalent.

    • Research experience is preferred

    • Bachelor's Degree; advanced degree preferred

    • Registered Medical Technologists (M.T.) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other recognized certification agency of medical laboratory professionals

    • A familiarity with certification requirements in Washington State, or more generally with CAP certification

    • Familiarity with immunochemistry assays and automation equipment preferred

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation range between $90,000 to $120,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

Company

AltPep, a startup located in Seattle Washington, is developing early disease-modifying treatments and detection tools for amyloid diseases by targeting one of the earliest molecular triggers – toxic soluble oligomers. These oligomers are associated with many diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and type 2 diabetes. Decades of scientific research by the Daggett Research Group culminated in the discovery of a novel protein structure, alpha-sheet, the foundation of our innovative approach.

Our lead program aims to identify Alzheimer’s Disease long before symptoms occur and then neutralize the toxic soluble oligomers associated with the disease.
