This role is based on-site in Redwood City (Redwood Shores), California
The Role
The Data Engineer Intern will work closely with the Data Engineering team to develop tools to assess and visualize the performance of our proteomics processing pipeline over time. In this project you will have opportunities to learn about cutting-edge proteomics data processing approaches and our cloud pipelines.
Responsibilities & Goals
You will research and define key metrics for the performance of those pipelines, and work with data engineers to implement a system that computes, records, and allows visualization of these metrics. This project will provide important insight into our core data stack, so it will conclude with a presentation to the data engineering, data science and bioinformatics teams about your work and any initial insights.
Technical Skills
- Experience with Python -- experience with Pandas and / or Numpy preferred
- Experience with Git and the pull request workflow
- Familiarity with relational and document databases
- Familiarity with Linux or Docker
- AWS or other cloud platform experience strongly preferred
- Additional skills (not required): data visualization in python (preferably matplotlib / pandas) or Javascript (e.g. D3); statistics and data science; biology or biochemistry
Background & Qualifications
- Senior Year pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, OR Recent Graduate - Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry
- Interest in data and developing data processes
- Collaborative work ethic, self-starter and persistent in achieving objectives
- Organized, attention to detail, and proficiency in documentation skills
