The Role:

The Moderna Research Co-op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in life sciences.During the co-op you will learn about the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and gain valuable hands-on experience in one of the most bold and relentless companies currently leading the field in mRNA-LNP science. You will work under the supervision of an experienced Moderna team member and have opportunities for cross-team collaboration, networking, and mentorship.

Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biology, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, and related majors are encouraged to apply.

Our summer\fall co-op program is from July 17 December 15, 2023. All applicants must be available for the entire duration of the program

Molecular Biology: This role will involve techniques such as tissue culture, transfection, electroporation, live cell imaging, RT-qPCR, and ELISA. The projects would aim at improving upon mRNA therapies in the Vaccine pipeline. Experience in tissue culture and cell transfection preferred, but not required. Chemical Biology: Focuses on the chemical biology of nucleic acids and RNA biochemistry to develop Modernas next generation building blocks for mRNA medicines. Design experiments, develop the appropriate methods, and perform in vitro as well as cell-based assays to study mRNA. The individual will work with Scientists within the Platform Research organization and across the Moderna ecosystem.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Work on a project that directly impacts the progress of Modernas mRNA therapeutic platform.

  • Design, conduct and troubleshoot in vitro/ex vivo/cell-based experiments, independently and/or in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Maintain and work with various mammalian cell lines

  • Develop and execute transcription, qPCR, and other in vitro assays

  • Learn and perform multiple experimental techniques including tissue culture, cell transfection, electroporation, live cell imaging, RT-qPCR, ELISA and other biochemical assays.

  • Contribute to data analysis and interpretation of study results

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date record of experiments in electronic laboratory notebook

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • Currently enrolled sophomore, Junior, Senior or advanced degree candidate

  • Successfully completed general and organic chemistry

  • Preferred prior completion of biochemistry courses

  • Previous cell culture experience is preferred

  • Must be curious, eager, open to learning, and independent

  • The candidate should be self-motivated and possess the desire to drive a project to completion. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic fast paced environment

  • The candidate must be highly organized and possess a great attention to detail

  • Minimum GPA of 3.4 preferred

  • Legal authorization to work in the US
