About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. We are looking for an experienced and creative engineer/scientist to guide implementation of automation solutions across Sana's R+D portfolio. You will work with cell engineering, analytical genomics, cell line development, and research teams to automate cell culture, cell line development, cell-based assays, and next-generation sequencing workflows to enhance process efficiency and reproducibility. Reporting to the Director of Automation, you will develop requirements for new automated platforms, develop automated scripts, train end-users, and sustain the use of automation platforms. You have experience working with complex processes and excellent project management skills.

What you'll do

  • Implement automation methods for standalone and integrated systems
  • Build great working relationships with vendors to create successful collaborations on new installations, service calls, and platform development efforts
  • Work with research and operations teams to identify unmet needs and new automation solutions to address them
  • Document requirements, processes, designs, and SOPs according to internal standards
  • Coordinate testing and deployment of new automation methods with project teams
  • Communicate with Informatics and Computational Engineering colleagues to address data integration and automated data analysis needs
  • Work with Facilities, IT and Data Infrastructure teams to bring new instruments and technology into Sana

What we're looking for

  • BS in Engineering discipline or Biology/Biochemistry with 6+ years of relevant industry experience
  • 3+ years of experience programming one of following instruments: Hamilton STAR/Vantage, HighRes Prime, CyBio FeliX, Biomek FX, Tecan Fluent/Evo
  • Experience producing documentation for process validation and standardized operating procedures
  • Experience with Benchling or LIMS systems
  • Experience with scheduling software and integrated device management
  • Experience calibrating and performing quality control on automation equipment

What will separate you from the crowd

  • Experience developing automation solutions for adherent and suspension cell line workflows
  • Experience automating nucleic acid extractions and library preparation
  • Experience in C#, VB, or Python.
  • Experience with Solidworks/CREO
  • Working knowledge of SQL and databases

What you should know

  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular basis is an essential job function for this position, and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $140,000 and $160,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
