The Regeneron Genetics Center® (RGC) is a uniquely integrated research initiative that seeks to improve patient care by using genomic data to speed drug discovery and development. The director of Data Privacy and Governance will help shape RGC’s data governance and data protection strategy and manage RGC’s privacy program. This multifaceted role involves working on the cutting edge of privacy and grappling with novel privacy issues in the evolving genomic privacy space in support of world-leading genetic data generation and analysis of millions of genotyped and sequenced humans.

You will be involved in and lead RGC’s data privacy and governance initiatives, liaise with the Regeneron Data Privacy Office (DPO), Information Security, Data Community, Technology, Business, Internal Audit groups, and teams across RGC. They will communicate RGC’s data privacy and protection posture within Regeneron. They are accountable for helping the business achieve its objectives while maintaining an appropriate data privacy and governance posture.

Key focus areas include:

  • Understand, refine, document RGC’s data privacy and governance posture and evangelize it within the organization.

  • Coordinate and handle Data Privacy assessments for key processes at RGC and ensure compliance.

  • Define and lead the execution of data governance strategies across RGC including creation of processes and standards and documenting data flows

  • Provide transparent assessment of risks to RGC leadership to enable informed business decisions by RGC leadership.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

  • Develop and maintain a deep comprehension of RGC’s processes, systems, technologies, data (Genomic and Clinical), customers, consumers, partners, and the data privacy-related compliance/regulatory environment (GDPR, Genetic Privacy, etc.,) that the business operates in.

  • Lead data privacy and governance issues in RGC-wide initiatives.

  • Serve as RGC’s data privacy steward and partner with the DPO in new and periodic privacy assessments and assist in development of procedures that support the DPO program objectives.

  • Identify and outline processes and systems for the DPO that are in scope and drive privacy-related mitigations related to RGC projects and capabilities

  • Partner with control and oversight groups (DPO, Information Security, Internal Audit) to create, maintain, test, and monitor for privacy and data protection compliance

  • Partner with RGC teams and data owners to create data governance processes and ensure adherence to the data sharing and data usage policies

  • Define data governance processes in line with policies and standards, clearly articulating roles & responsibilities, and establishing and disseminating required framework and standards

  • Facilitate data governance efforts across RGC like data classification, cataloging, tagging and lineage.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and minimum twelve years of relevant experience. In-depth understanding of privacy and data protection laws (US, UK & EU). A demonstrated commitment to continuous learning. Experience managing data governance for scientific research, genomics and/or clinical data is highly desired. Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key colleagues at all levels of seniority. Ability to build rapport with key team members to identify privacy risks/trends and stay abreast of new products/initiatives. Demonstrated leadership and partnering skills, plus excellent verbal, and written communication skills, with focus on informing, influencing and relationship building. Proficient in process documentation with an ability to guide others through complicated data flows to ensure common understanding. Strong project management and coordination skills with ability to prioritize assignments and run multiple projects. Motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail.

Candidates with experience within the pharmaceutical industry will be given preferential consideration. Level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The salary ranges provided are shown in accordance with U.S. law and apply to U.S. based positions, where the hired candidate will be located in the U.S. If you are outside the U.S, please speak with your recruiter about salaries and benefits in your location.

Salary Range (annually)

$172,500.00 - $287,500.00
