What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will report directly to the Director of Information Systems and support the Ohio site as the local representative of the Global Infrastructure Services team. This role will include the main responsibility for all activities related to VMWare/ESX administration in a 24x7 regulated environment, while working on virtualization servers and related technologies that will be introduced into the Amgen environment.

  • Perform advanced monitoring, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of virtualization technologies, including VMWare, ESX, Nutanix, Dell VXrail and Vmare vSAN.

  • Responsible for ongoing management of the VMWare infrastructure.

  • Performs vital systems maintenance in accordance with VMWare standard methodologies and company change management policies.

  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis reviews when applicable.

  • Rotational 24x7 On-Call Support

  • Contribute to the review/approval of virtual server design decisions to ensure that application hosting solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, reliability upon deployment

  • Support IT projects to validate alignment with our strategic goals and technical standards

  • Support a patching schedule for the OS and firmware

  • Monitor security bulletins to obtain information of potential threats; analyze and lead vital security patch implementations to ensure ongoing system security

  • Use software and hardware tools to identify, analyze, and diagnose sophisticated problems and factors affecting performance

  • Operate server automation solutions and enterprise-wide scripts using tools

  • Provide performance analysis and tune systems. utilize software and hardware tools to identify, analyze, and diagnose complex problems and factors affecting performance.

  • Apply capacity planning tools

  • Follow IT processes and change management practices

  • Identify and improve existing departmental processes for efficiency, reliability and consistency

  • Contribute in designing, documenting, and fruition of disaster recovery activities and associated tests

  • Support audit and security compliance issues (Amgen & government regulations)

Basic Qualifications:

Masters degree

OR

Bachelors degree and 2 years of engineering experience

Or

Associates degree and 6 years of engineering experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry Certifications and experience with VMWare server administration

  • Experience leading and coordinating VMWare systems, Nutanix, and related services

  • Scripting and ITIL experience and leading regulated systems

  • Understanding of common Wintel and Linux server operating systems

  • Understanding of Clustering and HA configurations

  • Excellent data-driven problem solving and analytical skills

  • Experience configuring VMware HA and DRS, VMware ESX/ESXi, VMware Virtual Center vSphere

  • Support of tools and functions for virtual infrastructure support (VMware HA, monitoring, etc)

  • Grasp of TCP/IP networking fundamentals

  • Command-line style management utilities, such as vMA/PowerCLI/Perl/etc

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is provided below.

$80,632-100,066 USD
