Job Description

Job Title: Senior Manager, Operational Excellence Deployment

Reports to: Lean Lead, Operational Excellence Director

Location: Lexington, MA (Hybrid)

About the role:

The Senior Manager, Operational Excellence Deployment is a Lean, or a Six Sigma practitioner responsible for development of Lean, and Six Sigma capability across the Takeda network as part of the AGILE program. You will also support business improvement through coaching of leaders and practitioners and through workshop deployment and this role in the program office has special accountabilities delineated below.

Through business knowledge, you will support the development, and the delivery of site AGILE roadmaps, developing local capabilities in the AGILE Teams in the process.

How you will contribute:

  • Provide guidance to site and functional teams to coach leaders on all aspects of AGILE Operating system

  • Aid sites/functions in identification of highest value areas for improvement and support delivery of improvement of plant/GMS performance with site teams

  • Work with the their manager to deliver OE strategy, to support our goals within the Operating Units and Region as part of AGILE Program

  • KPI reporting for GMS, in particular the AGILE-related metrics

  • Support AGILE champions/coaches in working across AGILE workstreams through coaching and connecting SMEs across the network

  • Liaise and collaborate with other regional team members Support the best practice sharing across GMS

  • Support Takeda Transformation and product End-to-End projects to identify improvement opportunities including projects at each individual site. Work with sites to identify waste and robustness issues within their value stream.

  • Implement high impact Lean Six Sigma projects as requested and as a Rapid response investigation leader

  • Deliver Lean Six Sigma training periodically for regional employees to develop required capabilities; this includes AGILE boot camps, YB/GB/BB training sessions

  • Impart Lean/Six Sigma coaching to employees to deliver improvement results using the AGILE Operating System

  • Participate in local AGILE fora to support the GMS network

  • Manage OE knowledge center, including SharePoint, which houses our best known methods and tools; ensure appropriate revision control, content ownership and updating periodically; support OE program office projects, which may include strategy deployment, site assessment, POBOS, (OEPO)

  • Other projects or tasks as assigned by manager

  • Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise: Implement strategies with minimum guidance; Influence people at all levels in the business, sites (SLTs, Department Managers, Supervisors); Assimilate new knowledge and standards quickly

  • Leadership: Lead the site or Operational Excellence team

  • Decision-making and Autonomy: Adapt to work priorities; Have the context of global, regional and site Operational Excellence needs.

  • Interaction: Operate in a multicultural environment, promoting diversity and inclusion; You will also partner with site Business Excellence Leads, and Learning partners; You may be in contact with Takeda customers, CMOs, vendors and consultants and external benchmarking bodies. External industry contacts as it relates to staying current on OE methodologies and tools.

  • Innovation: SME on Lean Operating systems and their application in a GxP environment

  • Complexity: You will be involved in moderately complex problem resolution; Appropriate techniques will be used to resolve business problems with focus on compliance and our risk in all solutions.

What you bring to Takeda:

Essential Skills:

  • BS degree in engineering or a technical discipline

  • Minimum 3 years experience in the bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing environment

  • 5 years in a manufacturing, or in a supply chain or quality, or technical services role

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Operational Excellence discipline or role

  • Demonstrated teaching and coaching skills

  • Experience in a Leadership role (people, projects, teams)

  • Minimum: Green Belt / Lean Practitioner certification

Desired Skills:

  • An advanced degree

  • Quality auditor certification

  • Lean Master / Six Sigma Black Belt certified

  • Experience with Design for Excellence transformation approach

  • Experience with end to end (E2E) process mapping to identify opportunities for improvements and assist management teams in prioritizing projects
