The Gilead Business Services center in Raleigh's North Hills is home to some of the company's critical shared service teams in North America, including Information Technology, Global Financial Solutions, HR Operations, R&D Data Science and Procurement Services Desk. These functions provide the necessary support to ensure Gilead's business runs effectively and efficiently. The center is a catalyst for standardization of processes, digital transformation and technology optimization.

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Gilead Data and Analytics team. This is a critical role responsible for executing on high value features, providing technical review across all features, and piloting new approaches to modernize our tech stack. The ideal candidate will have opinions on how features should be implemented while being open minded to feedback from peers. There will be a strong component of “leading by example” as the team standardizes the way solutions are developed in general. This role will interface with Engineering, Ops, Product, and key stakeholders. Communication of technical content to an audience of varied technical experience is important.

Responsibilities of the Senior Data Engineer include, but are not limited to:

• This Role will be part of Enterprise Data and Analytics Team to support functional areas like Finance, HR, Corporate Ops
  
• Deliver high priority features identified by Product
  
• Provide design and guidance for the team on lower priority features identified by Product
  
• Propose and develop solutions for bottlenecks identified by Engineering and Ops
  
• Provide L3 support for team's applications
  
• Participate in, and lead, code reviews
  
• Propose and advocate for development standards (patterns, processes, tools, etc.)
  
• Move team towards better practices through example and code review
  

Basic Qualifications:

• MA/MS in a technical discipline and 2+ years of building enterprise data platforms OR BA/BS in a technical discipline and 3+ years of building enterprise data platforms
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building data solutions using AWS services such as Redshift, RDS, MWAA, Glue, S3, SQS, SNS
  
• Proficiency in Python 3.6+ OR proficiency with a similar language and familiarity with Python 3.6+
  
• Proficiency in SQL
  
• Experience deploying applications using Terraform or a similar IaC tool
  
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or a similar tool
  
• Proficiency in managing code as part of a team using GitHub
  
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies
  
• Experience building data-driven unit test suites for data platforms
  
• Experience modelling highly dimensional data
  
• Experience in the biotech industry, or another highly regulated industry
  
• Knowledge of SRE practices
  
• Knowledge of Observability practices
  
• Experience building developer documentation with tools like sphinx and GitHub Pages
  
• Experience with Starburst, ThoughtSpot, Tableau
  
• Experience with Domain Driven Design for data modelling
