Summary of Position:
ReCode is seeking a Lab Safety Specialist/Coordinator on a part-time basis (~20 hours/week). This position requires thorough understanding and knowledge of EHS, occupational hazard, risk assessment, risk mitigation communication, and laboratory safety regulations. He/She will assist with the implementation of Laboratory EHS, safety policies, guidelines, and programs and in establishing a safe work environment by collaborating with Facilities, scientists/researchers, and lab personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Provides support to laboratories and manufacturing areas as an expert regarding general safety, chemical hygiene, biosafety, and environmental management to ensure best practices and compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations.
- Helps in Identifying and evaluating hazards to lab users and support staff in mitigating hazards by providing consultation, assisting with development/revisions to laboratory procedures, selection of appropriate personal protective equipment, chemical/hazardous materials management practices, and lab specific trainings
- Ensures that all employees are aware of relevant health and safety regulations
- Conducts weekly and monthly EHS inspections (Hazardous Waste, Biosafety and Chemical Safety Checklist) and attends to vendors on regular basis
- Determines laboratory compliance requirements, identifies areas for improvement and communicates requirements
- Evaluates Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), generally used chemicals and other safety systems for adequacy in all labs
- Communicates information on identified hazards, precautions, and required corrective actions throughout all labs
- Obtains and maintains current and archived safety data sheet (SDS) and other EHS files as needed
- Establishes and reviews all laboratory safety policies and creates/modifies policies and procedures as necessary
- Develops and maintains Chemical Inventory for all labs
- Prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures and coordinates with the supervisor to ensure measures have been implemented
- Helps is developing SOPs for certain equipment and chemicals.
- Conducts regular inspections for good lab practices, clean work environment, labeling, and other safety issue
- Any other lab related task assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in EHS related studies or relevant field
- 3 or more years of EHS experience in Biotechnology or Pharma industry
- Preference for RCRA and DOT Certifications
- Ability to interpret, apply, and assess compliance for numerous complex and technical regulations for R&D and CMC/GMP laboratories
- Strong understanding of hazard and risk assessment and communication
Salary Range: $35-50/hour*
*Please note that for remote positions, salary may be adjusted for cost of living
