Join Takeda as our Head of Analytical Development in our San Diego, CA labs.You will work closely with team members, function leaders and internal stakeholders to drive analytical and pre-formulation development activities/strategies for drug substance and drug product activities for early stage assets across multiple modalities and therapeutic areas. Primary responsibility is to plan and ensure timely delivery of the functional objectives and oversee, hire, train and grow a technically diverse and highly specialized team to support the successful transition and development of traditional synthetic molecules, oligonucleotide and peptide-based therapeutics from Discovery to early clinical development.
How you will contribute:You will lead team of approximately 6 scientists and define strategy for resource commitment to Pharmaceutical Sciences analytical/project teams.
Develop and manage strategies for departmental infrastructure, resources, projects, in conjunction with senior staff.
Contribute to overall functional direction globally and represent function within CMC/Pharm Sci and across the global Takeda organization.
Collaborate with functions in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Discovery Units to encourage strategic alignment and achievement of shared goals.
Communicate and coordinate implementation of procedural improvement to senior management, across therapeutic and functional areas.
Develop and implement analytical strategies to control quality of drug substances and products based on current Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations.
Serve as a technical resource for staff members, leveraging expertise in laboratory technology and project leadership.
Proactively seeks out new impacting technologies and incorporates them into the company.
Responsible for setting and meeting department goals.
Demonstrated ability to successfully direct multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsible for creating the department budget and adhering to it in accordance with Takeda policy.
Play a significant leadership role in creating and maintaining a nurturing and inclusive research environment that encourages creativity, collaboration among scientists from different disciplines and organizations, and efficient utilization of resources.
Accountable for staff members performance and career development.
PhD degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering, or related pharmaceutical science with 7+ years relevant experience, or
MS degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering, or related pharmaceutical science with 13+ years relevant experience, or
BS degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering, or related pharmaceutical science with 15+ years relevant experience
Demonstrated involvement in professional community evidenced by presentation of scientific posters or lectures at professional conferences or events
Technical - Strong knowledge of analytical, physicochemical profiling, biopharmaceutics and preclinical formulation techniques with advanced experience in multiple related techniques such as, HPLC, GC, LCMS, XRPD, DSC, TGA etc. Strong working knowledge of other CMC disciplines; knowledge of DMPK, DSRE, discovery chemistry/biology. Experience in pre-clinical and early clinical formulation development for synthetic molecules. Knowledge in the development of oligonucleotide and peptide analytical methods and formulation techniques in addition to drug delivery systems (e.g. Lipid Nanoparticles) is desired.

Communication Skills - Able to expresses oneself clearly and concisely within team; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; adjusts communication style as appropriate for the audience; timely and effectively communicates issues to supervisor; technical writing skills to support authorship of internal technical documents
Organization – Exercises good time management and prioritization skills and is able to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Knowledge Sharing - Ability to capture organizational knowledge; improve solutions, processes, and deliverables through use of information; improve information capital by contributing experience, theories, deliverables, and models for others to use
Resource Management - Ability to manage one's time within individual, departmental, and corporate goals and timelines; management of internal and external resources (vendors)

Base Salary Range: $143,500 to $205,000. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.
The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
