The Infectious Diseases group at Moderna is seeking a talented, experienced, and motivated Scientist in Immunology to help build an antibody discovery pipeline for novel therapeutics to treat infectious diseases. The candidate must have experience working in antibody discovery, developing platforms for screening, developing strategies for rapid/automated downselect, and characterization. The candidate will develop a high throughput antibody discovery pipeline, using different discovery strategies, to capture, profile, characterize, and explore the therapeutic impact of newly defined monoclonal antibodies. The candidate will also work to explore novel antibody formats to improve potency and to exploit animal models to define canonical and non-canonical mechanisms of action. The candidate will finally be responsible for integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence based strategies in the optimization and design of next generation therapeutics. The candidate will lead a number of parallel discovery campaigns both internally and externally and work with research organizations to evaluate novel therapeutics. The individual will interface with collaborators and present results both internally and externally. The ability to effectively communicate across internal multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners is required. Applicants should be outstanding scientists with experience at several biotech companies, work as a collaborative team member, possess excellent communication skills, have a robust publication track record, and should be excited to work with cutting edge mRNA technology in the advancement of vaccines against unmet infectious and non-infectious disease threats.
Here's What Youll Do:
Develop and explore a number of different novel antibody discovery pipelines both internally and externally
Develop a down selection strategy
Develop new frameworks for the functional evaluation of promising therapeutics across pathogens
Develop a platform strategy for rapid updating of monoclonal antibodies
Develop non-canonical functional strategies to drive pathogen control and clearance
Develop a high-throughput strategy to map epitope specificity and define structural interactions with target antigens
Define new modalities to improve antibody potency via multimerization
Develop and deploy novel animal model screening strategies to test in vivo efficacy
Develop strategies to incorporate artificial intelligence and in silico antibody design to discover and/or improve antibodies
Develop in vitro mRNA antibody characterization strategies
Review literature for relevant monoclonal therapeutic opportunities across pathogens.
Manage multiple experiments, projects, and interactions with supporting functions simultaneously.
Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:
Exceptional PhD with expertise in antibody identification and characterization is required.
A minimum of 5 years of independent research experience in biotech is required.
Experience working across biotech companies.
Strong understanding of antibody format improvement.
Strong understanding of evolving viral pathogens.
Strong level of understanding of antibody discovery platforms.
Solid understanding of anti-microbial assay development
Expertise in antibody assays, flow based assays, and pathogen-restriction assays will be a plus.
Contributions to high impact publications and presentations in the field of infectious disease, immunology or antibody therapeutics is required.
The ability to work in a cross-functional work environment is critical; strong leadership skills and independence skills are expected.
Excellent written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills; ability to influence and collaborate in a team environment.
