About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge the status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. We are looking for a creative Scientist to join our Product Characterization team in Analytical Development Department. You will report to the Director of Cell Product Characterization to establish potency strategies of gene-edited cell products. You will assume a role in developing assays and strategies to support functional characterization and potency for T cells drug product and others. You will work with a multi-function team to deliver gene-edited T cells for clinical use.

What you'll do

  • Complete essential experimental studies on testing CAR-T cell potency for T cell polyfunctionality characterization
  • Work with other groups such as Research and Process Development to produce data and support process development, formulation studies, stability studies, and potency of drug product
  • Design and complete important experimental studies on testing gene-editing materials (mRNA, sgRNA etc) activities
  • Document all experimental work, supporting data in an electronic lab notebook (ELN) promptly
  • Participate in crucial conversations and collaboration

What we're looking for

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology +2 years of academic/industry experience or BA/MS +7 years academic/industry experience
  • Direct experience performing potency and functional assay development such as Flow Cytometry, cell-based functional assay and ddPCR
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and assay development
  • Ability to present to teams with diverse backgrounds
  • Collaborator with an agile mindset to excel in a team-oriented organization

What will separate you from the crowd

  • Familiarity with cell therapy analytics and cell sorting
  • Working knowledge of CMC and interpretation of FDA/EMA and ICH guidelines
  • Ability quickly to assess and implement new technologies

What you should know

  • Ability to work in BSL-1 and BSL-2 labs
  • Prolonged standing and sitting
  • Manual dexterity required to operate office and lab equipment
  • Occasional weekend work
  • Occasional travel to other Sana locations
  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular basis is an essential job function for this position, and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $130,000 and $160,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
