Brief Job Overview

The professional in this role will build and maintain a robust operations foundation that enables successful engagement of USPs Board of Trustees, Convention, and Council of the Convention. To accomplish this, the successful candidate will interface with executives, colleagues across the organization, volunteer leaders, and other key stakeholders, ensuring that engagement with these groups is professional and seamless, and that they are well supported to contribute to USPs growth, impact, and sustainability.

How will YOU create impact here at USP?

USP is governed by volunteer leadership bodies the Board of Trustees, Convention and Council of the Convention, and Council of Experts so its important that these groups are well supported to deliver on their critical role. In this role, you will be responsible for enabling the successful engagement of and governing by the Board, Council of the Convention, and Convention, by ensuring a rigorous operations foundation. You will ensure the CEO, Chief Science Officer, CFO, Board Secretary, Convention Secretary, other executives, and colleagues are prepared and supported to work with these groups to help deliver on USPs mission.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Manage Board operations and governance, including building and managing agendas for the Board and its committees, working with presenters, ensuring the quality of materials/presentations, ensuring all governance duties of the Board are met.

Manage Convention operations, including managing membership data integrity, managing process to invite new members and remove members for cause.

Manage Convention governance, including building and managing agendas for Council of the Convention and its committees, ensuring compliance with governance documents.

Serve in a leadership role for all cycle transition and governance activities leading up to and including the USP Convention Meeting, held every five years.

Who USP is Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

Senior Manager:

Bachelors degree in a related field

Minimum 8 years of experience with governance issues and processes, including adherence to bylaws, and rules and procedures

Minimum 5 years of experience in a complex organization

Demonstrated success working in a matrixed organization

Proactive, outcomes oriented, self-motivated, highly organized

Director:

Bachelors degree in a related field

Minimum 10 years of experience with governance issues and processes, including adherence to bylaws, and rules and procedures

Minimum 5 years of experience in a complex organization

Demonstrated success working in a matrixed organization

Proactive, outcomes oriented, self-motivated, highly-organized

Additional Desired Preferences

Experience in legal setting

Pays attention to the details, but also focused on the big picture

Strong critical thinker

Collaborative, able to use influence to drive quality work

Writing and speaking that is clear, professional

Professional demeanor, discretion

Experience working in a science-based organization
