The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Facilities
Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in
their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical
campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the
infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds
them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and
construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintenance of utilities and building equipment and
systems in a 330,000 sq ft facility
- Coordinating and communicating the preventative
maintenance, special assist, work orders, and projects with FME staff, external contractors under the guidance of the Facility Manager
- Proactive approach to Safety awareness and training, and
implementation of safety policies, and procedures
- Assigning work to staff, and daily planning
- Inspecting work as it is in progress for adherence to
best practices and follow up to verify completeness of work
- Preparing labor and material cost estimates of work for
entry into various business systems
- Making recommendations to improve efficiency of
operations
- Assist the Facility Manager and Custodial Supervisor to
resolve problems as they arise
- Provide Back up to the Facility Manager as needed
- Writing annual performance reviews and discussing them
with each direct report to promote continuous improvement
- Providing after hour support
- Developing creative reporting tools to communicate
complex project sequencing and/or progress assessments
- Tracking backlog and completion status of work orders
in Maximo
- Attending project meetings to provide current financial
information and potential impacts to project budget or forecast
- Providing detailed performance metrics and analysis for
senior management and NCI at established intervals
- Collecting and reviewing customer satisfaction survey
data and ensuring that low scores are investigated with customers and
adequately resolved
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education)
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of four (4) years relevant experience including a minimum of one (1) year in a leadership role
- Ability to work as a team member
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
- Position includes walking, standing, bending, stooping,
climbing stairs and exposure to dust or particulates
- Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail
- Ability to supervise, motivate, coach, discipline direct reports
- Ability to think strategically and coordinate all support shop functions to meet customer and mission objectives
- Experience with OSHA standards and contemporary safety practices
- Analyze data and situations and make sound data driven decisions
- Ability to provide support by telephone and in person for after-hours activities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Experience with facility management
- Previous experience working at the Advanced Technology Research Facility (ATRF)
- Previous experience with laboratory construction and renovations, plant steam operations, theory and equipment used in industrial heating ventilation and air-conditioning systems
- Knowledgeable in cGMP/cGLP requirements for clinical manufacturing and research laboratories
- Experience with CMMS (Maximo)
