Precision BioSciences Summer Internship Program allows current students the opportunity to complete a combination of larger projects to solve a key problem and day to day tasks to better understand what a career in the given field entails. Interns will also participate in group learning and networking opportunities and enhance presentation skills through a capstone presentation at the end of the summer.
This position is a full-time internship, working 40 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks in the summer.
The Gene Therapy Intern will work with a small group of scientists supporting work to advance a nuclease
through candidate nomination and characterization. This will involve the generation of samples and data characterizing nucleases specificity and potency in both cell culture and in vivo studies.

- This position will provide support for internal gene therapy projects. This will require characterization of candidate nucleases in mammalian cells as well as providing material for off target analysis to the Core Tech group. This intern will be expected to work with the team in cloning constructs, performing sequence analysis, extracting bacterial and mammalian DNA (either manually or using automation) and performing droplet digital PCR analysis on samples.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
- Current student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in biology or life sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic molecular biology skills including PCR, plasmid cloning, bacterial culture inoculation and extraction of DNA, isolation of DNA from cells and tissues
- Mammalian cell culture experience is a plus
- Strong laboratory documentation skills
- No travel is anticipated for this role.
- This is a primarily office-based position associated with the main headquarters in Durham, NC. This is NOT a position that can be performed remotely, it is laboratory based.
