This position is for a Staff Scientist, Customer Experience, Software and Bioinformatics.

The position can be located in Menlo Park, CA, San Diego, CA, or remote. Must be willing to travel up to 25%.

PacBio is building a world-class, multi-disciplinary team to drive improvements to the usability and reliability of our products across all functions in the company, including but not limited to Field Service, Research and Development, Product Marketing, and Operations. The ideal candidate for this role is a well-rounded top performer and a proven key contributor in a high-energy growth environment. This role will operate by assembling cross-functional teams to address specific problems and by influencing existing teams across the organization to make decisions with the customer in mind.

Responsibilities:

  • Be able to useour software products as a customer would.
  • Interact with personnel from Customer Service, Product Marketing, and directly with customers to develop a deep understanding of the specific needs and pain points of varied customers, from large institutions to small laboratories, including needs for:
  • data analysis
  • LIMS, from run setup to data management
  • networking, computing, storage, and cloud infrastructure
  • cyber security
  • data privacy
  • Develop tools and metrics to monitor the performance of our software products in the field, create reports for the executive team and broader organization, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing, R&D, Customer Support, NPI, and QA to:
  • prioritize and implement improvements through design decisions and bug fixes,
  • ensure that product requirements are customer-focused, support Customer Service, and are tested properly before launch,
  • develop improvements to our processes to ensure that we produce high-quality software which delivers the best possible experience for our customers,
  • build out effective training for bioinformaticians, both external and in-house.
  • Prepare postmortem analyses on completed initiatives, including measurements of the effectiveness of changes to designs and processes.
  • All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional tasks and responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • M.S. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
  • Must have 5+ years of experience working with data from next-generation sequencing.
  • Preference will be given for experience in customer-facing roles involving support or collaborations.
  • Additional preference will be given for experience with PacBio’s products.

  • Customer-focused with the empathy and skills to identify, understand, and address the wants, needs, and concerns of our customers.
  • Self-starter who can take large concepts, turn them into projects, plan, and drive them to completion to achieve maximal impact with little supervision.
  • Ability to deeply understand complex multidisciplinary systems.
  • Excellent data mining and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable with command-line interfaces and scripting.
  • Must have a “can do” attitude and be comfortable in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to balance several concurrent projects.

Salary Range:

$138,200.00 - $187,000.00
