Job Description:

The Precision Medicine Department is committed to advancing drug development and patient care through building a deeper understanding of disease biology and developing tools to optimize clinical decision making and customize treatment for patients. The translational research team is a critical component of the Precision Medicine Immunology department and uses advanced technologies to study immunology, discover biomarkers, and validate mechanisms of action of different drugs in AbbVie’s innovative Immunology pipeline to inform clinical decisions including indications and patient selection and combinations. The translational research team is expanding and is hiring a highly motivated and experienced Senior Scientist I with a strong scientific background in autoimmune diseases, a passion for translational research, and a proven track record of research accomplishments to join this dynamic team. The candidate will work both within the translational research team and as a member of cross-functional interdisciplinary teams. The candidate is expected to design and execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments independently to enhance our translational and biomarker research. The successful candidate will have expertise in flow cytometry and advanced molecular techniques such as next generation sequencing. The successful candidate will also have experience with handling human tissues and samples, and developing assays to evaluate drug target engagement, receptor occupancy and pharmacodynamics, and interrogate disease and drug biology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently devise, execute, and analyze hypothesis-driven translational research experiments to identify PD biomarkers, mechanisms of resistance, inform patient selection and test novel drug-combinations to advance the Abbvie Immunology pipeline.
  • Routinely utilize broad technical expertise in immune cell biology to advance translational research for both pre-clinical and clinical stage oncology projects.
  • Effectively communicate hypotheses, work plans and data generated to diverse audiences in both oral and written communications.
  • Train and guide colleagues on established methodologies, troubleshoot assays and establish novel techniques within Abbvie

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in immunology, oncology or other biological sciences with 10-12+ (BS), 8-10+ (MS) or 0-4+ (PhD) years of experience
  • Proficient knowledge in flow cytometry and at least 3 years’ experience applying flow cytometry techniques in research, preferably in an industry setting or with a strong focus on translational assays.
  • Expertise in operation of multiple flow cytometry platforms (e.g.: BD Fortessa, Cytek Aurora, etc.) and specialized analysis software (e.g.: FlowJo, DiVa, OMIQ)
  • Experienced in molecular techniques including RNA isolation, qPCR, and RNAseq
  • Experience working with human tissues
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary groups in a fast-paced discovery team setting
  • Effectively communicate cross-functionally with team members throughout the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous industry experience with a record of project leadership
  • Knowledge of target engagement, receptor occupancy, and pharmacodynamic assay development
  • Experience in high content transcriptomics and proteomics read-outs (Multicolor Flow cytometry, nano-string, single cell and spatial transcriptomic analysis, MSD)
  • Bioinformatics experience is a plus
