The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installing, maintaining, repairing, modifying, testing and troubleshooting telephone services, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment
- Installing and modifying cable and system wiring such as Cat 5, Cat 6 and Cat 6A needed to support the installation of telephone sets, fax lines, video service and data services
- Installing Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, aerial and underground cabling, fiber-optic loops and associated devices/fixture
- Installing and maintaining 4 wire jacks, 4 pair modular taps, 66 blocks, 2/4 wire data loops and data sets
- Installing and maintaining OM3/OM4 MM (Multimode) and OS2 SM (Singlemode) also Network racks and cable management per specs
- Ability to install WAP’s (Wireless Access Points) per drawings
- Ability to troubleshoot analog lines to include FACP, Outdoor Emergency phones as well as Elevator phone lines, maintain cable drawings and FACP line documents
- Providing basic instruction to customer on how to use telephone sets and general features of the telecommunications systems
- Interacting with various FME personnel as it relates to the installation or repair of telecommunications equipment
- Assignments are reviewed for workmanship and adherence to standards
- Performs other related duties as assigned by a responsible authority
- Works independently using standard trade techniques
- This position is subject to 24-hour call in for emergency repairs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of high school diploma or equivalent
- In addition to education requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of craft-related experience
- Ability to install, maintain and repair a variety of telephone equipment and systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Knowledge of standardized Bell systems, basic principles, and practices of telephone communications
- Knowledge of or experience servicing and repairing telecommunications equipment/systems
- Must have the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; climb stairs and ladders; work involves bending, stooping, and working in confined areas; potential exposure to particulates, vapors, or noisy environment
- Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the incumbent/candidate resides for each class of vehicle to be operated on company business
- Must have no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months per policy
- Experience with construction safety practices
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Familiarity with scientific/laboratory environment
- Ability to run pipe (EMT, Rigid, PVC)
- Knowledge of different Scientific Alarm Systems
