RESEARCH ASSOCIATE II - VACCINE PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

OBJECTIVES:

Execute laboratory studies in support of process development, process scale-up and process scale-down for the production of Taketa's vaccine candidates.

Produce cell culture media, solutions, and buffers in support of lab scale vaccine production. Passage mammalian cells and assist in cell culture scale-up.

Provide experience in down stream processing activities such as chromatography and ultra filtration Assist in preparing and analyzing vaccine production samples.

Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses of experimental procedures, when required.

Coordinate information exchange between functional groups within Takeda including Formulation Development, Analytical Development, Analytical Services and Discovery groups. Operate bioprocessing equipment such as bioreactors, ultrafiltration, and chromatography units.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Design and perform a wide variety of technical procedures and operate a wide variety of lab instrumentation/computer platforms with minimal supervision.

Effectively analyze and summarize experimental outcomes, record experimental procedures and raw and analyzed data

Write experimental protocols and laboratory SOPs Coordinate efforts between internal and external teams such as Analytical Development, Drug Product Development, Analytical Services, and Quality Assurance.

Develop methods to improve existing techniques and/or efficiencies

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

MS in Physical or Life Sciences or a BS in Physical or Life Sciences with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Detailed knowledge of theoretical basis and objectives of experiments and how they fit into overall project goals

Knowledge and skills in microbial and/or animal cell culture and protein and/or virus purification required

Training and experience in laboratory scale process science including process scale-up and scale-down required

Maintain familiarity with current applicable scientific literature and contribute to the process of a project within her/his scientific discipline, as well as investigate, create, and develop new methods and techniques for project advancement.

Personal motivation to expand applicable scientific knowledge through reading and by attending seminars and research meetings.

Experience with cell culture techniques including manual cultivation of cells in small scale flasks and operation of stirred tank and/or packed bed bioreactors OR experience with purification techniques including cell harvest technologies, preparative chromatography and normal and tangential flow filtration techniques required.

Experience with single-use cell culture and/or purification technologies strongly desired Experience with analytical methods used in support of process development strongly desired Experience in down stream processing utilizing chromatography and ultrafiltration strongly desired

Working knowledge of Biologics cGMPs including ICH guidance documents strongly desired

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, etc.).

Typical office and laboratory bending, stooping, lifting requirements apply.

Lifting and moving supplies and equipment (up to 50 pounds).

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires less than 15% travel

Location and Salary Information:

Base Salary Range: $64,000 to $91,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.

The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.

This position is currently classified as “hybrid” in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.”
