Job Details

Theseus Pharmaceuticals is passionately committed to improving the lives of cancer patients by working to outsmart cancer resistance. Led by a team of targeted oncology pioneers with a proven track record developing and commercializing cancer therapeutics, we are developing the next generation of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs): “pan-variant” targeted therapies that address all known drug-resistant mutations. We believe a pan-variant approach is the only way to address cancer resistance. Our lead program, THE-630, is a pan-variant KIT inhibitor for patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), whose cancer has developed resistance to earlier lines of kinase inhibitor therapy. We are also developing a fourth-generation, selective epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor to address C797S-mediated resistance to first- or later-line osimertinib treatment in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Role: Scientist, Discovery Biology

We are looking for a talented and passionate Discovery Biologist who is excited to leverage the latest advances in biology, chemistry, and computation to help us discover promising new cancer drugs. The successful candidate will be responsible for target validation, assay development, and analysis of in vitro and cellular data, and will be a key member of the team that discovers our next clinical candidate(s). You will carry out these responsibilities overseeing a team of external scientists across multiple CROs.

Who are we looking for?

  • A driven professional who knows how to work and contribute to an ever-changing working environment
  • A willingness to learn new things, adapt to new ways and go with the flow

  • Exposure to pioneering science and the discovery of drugs to help treat patients with cancer

What you will do:

  • Partner with leadership to plan and prioritize target selection, biology strategy and workflows
  • Select, design, and validate an extensive array of predictive in vitro and cellular assays and manage their execution by direct oversight of external CROs
  • Provide sophisticated data analysis and interpretation to help guide drug discovery and evaluation of meaningful go/no-go decisions
  • Provide guidance in identifying and validating biomarkers and indication selection for clinical development
  • Work closely and collaboratively with a talented group of internal scientists across Biology (including Translational and Structural), Pharmacology, Chemistry (including Computational) and DMPK functions
  • Leverage a network of external scientific advisors and consultants to execute research activities

What you will bring:

  • Ph.D. and post-doctoral fellowship in a relevant field of biomedical research; industry experience is a plus
  • Strong background in oncology/cancer research, with a thorough understanding of signaling pathways implicated in disease and the mechanism of action of targeted therapies
  • A very high level of motivation and a proven record of accomplishment (eg, a strong publication record)
  • Experience performing and analyzing a broad array of molecular and cell biology studies
  • Track-record of adopting highly innovative approaches to answering complex biological questions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and oral and written communication

Theseus is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on improving the lives of cancer patients through the discovery, development and commercialization of transformative targeted therapies. Theseus is working to outsmart cancer resistance by developing pan-variant tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) to target all known classes of cancer-causing and resistance mutations that lead to variants in a particular protein in a given type of cancer. Theseus' lead product candidate, THE-630, is a pan-variant KIT inhibitor for the treatment of patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), whose cancer has developed resistance to earlier lines of kinase inhibitor therapy.
