The Role:

As part of our vision, Moderna is committed to invest in R&D to further expand our impact on patients. We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA. mGx is an innovation engine for the company focused on delivering next generation to enable our mission of personalizing gene editing.

mGx seeks an experienced, curious, and results-driven scientist to help power efforts to develop and optimize gene editing medicines. As part of the Genomic Analytics Innovation Team, the successful candidate will leverage their expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics to develop innovative NGS-based high-throughput assays for querying mechanisms and principles of gene editing tools, components, and variations thereof.A key priority will be to enable massively parallel kinetic assays with NGS readouts for gene editors. In addition, this role will collaboratively work on developing assays for editing intermediates and/or outcomes mediated by next-generation gene editing systems. An innovative and analytical mindset paired with a mission-driven spirit are essential.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Lead design of synthetic pooled libraries for kinetic assays

  • Develop and perform massively parallel kinetic assays to evaluate and characterize gene editors

  • Collaborate with computational scientists to analysis data, generate insights, and iterate assay development cycles

  • Plan, develop, and evaluate other high-throughput screening methods and NGS-based assays

  • Collaborate with colleagues and teammates to drive NGS platform efficiency and productivity

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.

  • Strong scientific background, including an understanding of biochemistry, molecular biology, and NGS techniques

  • Proven expertise doing massively parallel screening experiments to answer biological questions or develop technology

  • Working knowledge of Python, R, and AWS cloud computing

  • Working knowledge of mammalian cell culture

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in small teams.

  • Experience working in the Crispr gene editing space preferred

  • Experience using microfluidic or single cell platforms a plus

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

  • Passion for science and great data

About Moderna

In over 10 years since its inception, Moderna has transformed from a research-stage company advancing programs in the field of messenger RNA (mRNA), to an enterprise with a diverse clinical portfolio of vaccines and therapeutics across seven modalities, a broad intellectual property portfolio in areas including mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, and an integrated manufacturing plant that allows for rapid clinical and commercial production at scale. Moderna maintains alliances with a broad range of domestic and overseas government and commercial collaborators, which has allowed for the pursuit of both groundbreaking science and rapid scaling of manufacturing. Most recently, Moderna's capabilities have come together to allow the authorized use and approval of one of the earliest and most effective vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna's mRNA platform builds on continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing, and has allowed the development of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases. Moderna has been named a top biopharmaceutical employer by Science for the past seven years. To learn more, visit www.modernatx.com.
