Position Summary
The Associate Director coordinates the development and implementation of a Best-in-Class Medical Education and Scientific Engagement strategy for US Medical Affairs in collaboration with internal stakeholders, therapeutic area experts, scientific societies and other third parties, to provide tailored education focused on improving patient outcomes.
Candidate will serve in Medical Affairs mastering stakeholder management for cross functional teams, He/She will also be responsible for External engagement and external and internal medical education, field excellence, congress management, medical grants, advisory boards.
This position will report to the Director, US Medical Excellence
Essential Functions
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate and define the medical education strategy across TAs in the US
Coordinate with the TA Medical Directors and across functions (including global to identify educational gaps and differentiated collaboration opportunities to enhance evidence-based medical education
- Define the strategy and plan for external medical education, including and not limited to, (1) medical activities in the context of medical congresses - pre, during and post event, (2) independent medical education (IME) programs, (3) Ipsen driven medical education event/activities
Coordinate the scientific engagement strategy and implementation
- Work with BE, legal, TAs to develop external medical education strategy framework principles that include both independent and company driven strategies
- Define and develop strategic mapping of medical conferences, =and provide medical input on cross-functional planning
- Develop framework for medical congress planning and management, partnering with Global teams as appropriate
- Coordinate, with internal stakeholders (Global and regional knowledge transfer, publications, medical information, and other relevant functions), specific materials for local medical functions (including MSLs) that involve external medical experts
Lead the strategic design and ensure end-to-end execution in the US, in collaboration with global functions
- Define and develop, in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders, a short, mid- and long-term Medical Education and Scientific Engagement strategy
- Participate in the development of the integrated brand and medical plans
- Coordinate insight generation activities across functions to ensure consistency and efficiency
- Drive and deliver impactful content to drive a holistic customer engagement experience that incorporates digital content creation and virtual channels.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g commercial/marketing, medical communication) in the creation and review of their external materials
- Develop standards, metrics and dashboards to generate insights and drive excellence in medical education and scientific engagement
- Ensure close collaboration with Legal and Business Ethics to define ethical effectiveness of scientific engagements
- Provide program analytics to support internal communication regarding the impact of supported educational activities
- Set up tools to understand how the company approach to medical education and scientific engagement is perceived by medical experts, scientific societies and centers of excellence.
- Effectively manages the overall annual medical education budget; provide financial oversight through routine reviews with Finance and updates for Medical Affairs leadership.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
- Degree in Life Science preferred
Experience
- 7+ years substantial relevant experience of pharmaceutical industry
- Demonstrated experience in leading the development and execution of scientific communication and engagement strategies and plans
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing cross-functional projects with significant business impact
- Excellent understanding of industry guidance and best practices
- Experience managing and developing relationships with vendors
- Experience with developing, reporting, and tracking research and medical performance metrics and able to train/develop staff in these areas

- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICH-GCP and FDA regulations.
- Proficient in the use of computer software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Share Point, CTMS, EDC software, etc.)

- Comfortable with presentation and reporting to senior leaders and external KOLs.
- Ability to work across multiple functions and cultures.
