What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Laboratory Technician to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC, and it is on-site in Rockville, MD.
- Segregate, clean, process, and return cleaned items to designated pickup shelves or to stock shelves.
- Clean and sterilize glassware, plastic-ware and hand instruments as appropriate.
- Keep admin staff updated on issues and problems pertaining to glassware procedures and needed repairs to equipment.
- Communicate with the lab staff on a daily basis to ensure their needs are being met.
- Keep glassware rooms clean and organized.
- Ensure proper operation and daily maintenance of all equipment (wash machine, oven, autoclave, etc.).
- Properly prepare cleaned glassware to ensure sterility for lab personnel (i.e. plug pipettes as appropriate, etc.).
- Perform quality control for each item washed to check for residue, cracks or other imperfections.
- Discard any items that are no longer able to meet laboratory standards. Maintain adequate levels of glassware items for laboratories.
- Assist with cleaning, organizing and other administrative tasks as directed by Laboratory personnel.
- On a weekly basis, support Lab by performing the following tasks:
- Clean general common gel electrophoresis area
- Bag and label completed laboratory waste for pick up.
- Autoclave Biological waste for disposal.
- Assist with the following: prepare various media including weighing and mixing ingredients, use the pH meter to adjust pH of media, dispense media into glassware and/or pour agar plates, and access Media Lab database to check for new media orders and process completed orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills.
- Experience working in a complex, demanding and fast-paced dynamic work environment.
- Ability to maintain a clean work environment.
- Ability to follow all facility established programs. This includes those related to safe handling procedures for government supplies, equipment, and materials as well as proper attire (i.e., protective gear, appropriate clothing and shoes).
