To fight the war on cancer, Freenome has raised more than $1.1B from leading investors including a16z, GV (formerly Google Ventures), T. Rowe Price, BainCapital, Perceptive Advisors, RA Capital Management, Roche, Kaiser Permanente Ventures, and the American Cancer Society’s BrightEdge Ventures.

About Our Summer 2023 Internship Program

Our interns provide valuable support and fresh perspectives to our teams as we work toward setting a new direction in the fight against cancer.

This is a 10-week program, designed to provide impactful work and foster an environment for learning and professional development through mentorship and networking opportunities. Throughout the program, our interns will be empowered to drive key projects with real business outcomes. This is a highly cross-functional and personalized program, offering guidance and support from our Hiring Managers and assigned mentors. Our program is intended to begin mid-June and end mid-late August. The working hours for this role are 9am-5pm Pacific Time, with some flexibility determined by the Hiring Manager and leadership team. This position is open to remote within the US or onsite at our headquarters in South San Francisco.

About this opportunity:

During this internship, you will enter the fascinating world of cancer research, as part of our Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) division. HEOR supports the company through mathematical models estimating the clinical and economic impact of early detection depending on relevant parameters. We combine expertise in mathematics, economics, and health sciences. Data sources include cancer registries, clinical trials and payment data. Our work informs public discourse, policy, payers, and guidelines, and is instrumental for product development and marketing.

While for some cancers like Breast, Colorectal and Lung cancer, benefits of early detection have been relatively well-documented, for many cancer types, limited early detection data exists. In your role, you will collect and study cancer incidence and survival data to help us better understand cancer differences, and early detection promise. You will be given the opportunity to present your findings internally to different stakeholders. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to see our work, to meet our people, and to make an impact while acquiring relevant research experience.

What you’ll do:

  • Data collection and curation
  • Analysis using less or more advanced methods, depending on background and interest
  • Development of internal documentation and presentation(s)

Must haves:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Health Economics, Computer Science or other relevant fields
    • Or alternatively, within 1 year post-graduation
  • Experience using statistical software such as R, SAS or Stata is preferred.

All interns will be hired through a third-party provider and will be considered contingent workers. We invite you to check out our career page @ https://careers.freenome.com/ for additional company information.
