Summary

This person will support the development of strategies and processes for identifying, assessing and executing external opportunities. Working closely with the Senior Director and other executives in the Global Business Development organization, this person will support numerous areas and initiatives to help develop and implement Daiichi Sankyo's external innovation priorities, including supporting early-stage collaborations, future asset development, equity investments and later-stage licensing and M&A opportunities.

Responsibilities

- Gather, assess, organize, synthesize and analyze external information to help guide and shape Daiichi Sankyo’s external innovation priorities and approach. Present such materials and analyses to others in Global Business Development and other key constituencies.
- In coordination with the Senior Director, Global External Innovation, and others in the Global External Innovation group, maintain and expand a network of trusted relationships with global academic institutions, biotech companies, and venture investors to extend DS’s access to innovation and grow DS’s innovation reputation. Coordinate feedback on opportunities with relevant internal constituencies.
- In close partnership with RD (including GSI and the DS research labs) and under the direction of the Senior Director, Global External Innovation, participate on teams that manage the scientific assessment, therapeutic evaluation and feasibility analysis for external collaboration and investment opportunities with relevant internal stakeholders. Support decision-making processes. Work to support the evaluation and feasibility analysis. Assist in the preparation and review of documents for submission and presentation to management. Report to the Senior Director, External Innovation on the status of key opportunities and seek approval for advancing projects.
- Support the organizations efforts to develop close working relationships with stakeholders across Daiichi Sankyo to understand their current and future needs for external research collaborations and to build communication channels that help organize and share the total organizational knowledge of targets, modalities and disease areas.
- Participate in, or assist the Senior Director, Global External Innovation on, projects of strategic importance, evaluation of departmental processes and priorities, management presentations and other activities.
- Monitor, understand, distill, and prioritize external trends of relevance to Daiichi Sankyo. Present such information internally and help coordinate analysis of how the enterprise should prepare and/or respond.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Education Qualifications (from an accredited college or university)

- Master's Degree in a relevant scientific discipline or
- PharmD in a relevant scientific discipline or
- PhD in a relevant scientific discipline is required.
- MBA MBA with 4+ years of direct biopharma experience will also be considered.

Experience Qualifications

- 2+ years of experience as a scientific researcher, research assistant or intern in the healthcare industry and/or at a leading R1 institution required
- 2+ years of experience in Pharma business development or venture capital experience required
- Fellowships, internships or other experience working with venture capital is also preferred
