Associate Director, Ecosystem Enablement (Data Governance)

In order to achieve this, we are designing a fit-for-purpose data strategy which includes a data governance structure and operating model that supports and drives the right behaviors.

The Associate Director, Ecosystem Enablement (Data Governance) sits within the Clinical Development Operations (CDO) organization and will provide strategic support across the Clinical Trial Management Ecosystem.  This role will help develop the vision to continuously enhance the existing ecosystem, driving cross-functional alignment with R&D business functions and with Business Technology Solutions (BTS).  Requires frequent interaction with Sr. Leadership and cross-functional management to influence key decisions that impact AbbVie’s ecosystem.

 

  • Define the Operational Data Governance strategy and plan for Clinical Development Operations, including data quality, data access controls, compliance with privacy and security regulations, foundational master data management, and data sharing.
  • Lead Operational Data Governance business project deliverables, including strategic decision-making, stakeholder management, release schedule, prioritization of development, budget preparation, and communication.  Ensure on-time and within budget implementation.
  • Oversight and guidance to transformation programs and projects to ensure the timely and effective implementation of data solutions, aligned to Operational Data Governance needs.
  • Administrating Operational Data Quality issue management with a focus on root cause analysis of critical and high impact data quality issues to ensure that action plans and data remediation is conducted in timely and cost effective manner.
  • Developing metrics to measure effectiveness and drive adoption of Operational Data Governance policy and standards, that will be applied to mitigate the identified risks across the data lifecycle (e.g., capture / production, aggregation / processing, reporting / consumption)
  • Present senior management with oversight and transparency of data governance activities, budget and funding requirements, data quality concerns and issue management, and program status. Escalate high priority issues to Council and execute appropriate actions to resolve open items.
  • Drive innovation activities in collaboration with key stakeholders, anticipating emerging technology needs, identifying these solutions and adjust/revise strategy and action plans accordingly. 
  • Represent CDO in regional forums and on cross-functional teams related to shared technologies across AbbVie.
  • Maintain knowledge of current ecosystem with a focus on driving for excellence ensuring alignment to existing business processes.
  • Supports the CTME leadership, filling in as needed, for key planning discussions across R&D.
  • People manager of contractors and/or consultants.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or business field preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in data management establishing/creating end-to-end governance framework that is adopted, valued and integrated. Specialization in data governance, master data management, legal and privacy standards.
  • 5+ years knowledge of clinical trials, clinical trials process and technology, healthcare, or regulated industry with experience in project management or business technology support. 
  • Project management experience working in a complex and matrix environment. Experience using clinical trial systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts in layman’s terms
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated history of successful execution in a fast-paced environment and in managing multiple priorities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to influence Sr. Executives and cross-functional leaders
  • Good understanding of clinical development functional areas and related processes. Proven track-record with leading complex cross-functional initiatives in Clinical Development
