Intern, Clinical Pharmacology

As a Gilead Intern, you will contribute to high-impact meaningful projects that will not only further advance our company's mission but will allow you to gain real world experience at one of the most innovative organizations in the world. You will also have opportunities to participate in special events including professional development and leadership presentations, social/network building activities and local community volunteer programs.

Position Overview:

A graduate summer internship is available in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Foster City, CA, campus of Gilead Sciences. The intern will work closely with clinical pharmacologists and pharmacometricians supporting the inflammation, oncology and/or virology therapeutic areas. The intern will get hands-on working experience with individual or study level clinical trial data and learn how these data can be used inform the clinical pharmacology strategy of individual programs or the therapeutic area in general. The candidate will get exposure to clinical trial designs, execution, data analyses and interpretation during the internship and will gain understanding of role of clinical pharmacologists and pharmacometricians in drug development.

Position Responsibilities:

Under general supervision,

• Frame a clinical research hypothesis and design research methodology to address the hypothesis.
  
• Conduct literature reviews to gather background information on the research topic of interest and synthesize knowledge based these reviews.
  
• Conduct pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data analyses and develop different ways of data visualizations and summarization.
  
• Integrate results to formulate sound scientific conclusions and present the research outcomes to peer scientists internally and externally as appropriate.
  

Required Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old
  
• Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8
  
• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a PhD program at an accredited US based university or college who successfully completed the PhD comprehensive or qualifying exam
  
• Pursuing PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences with focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and/or pharmacometrics, or a related field
  
• Good understanding of the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics is required
  
• Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.
  
• Must be enrolled in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internship
  
• Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between June and September
  
• Must be able to work at our Foster City site for the duration of the internship
  
• Must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination* prior to start of internship
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Students who have completed three years in their graduate programs are preferred
  

• Working familiarity with pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics data handling and analyses software is preferred
  
• Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
  
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in the workplace
  
• Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
  
• Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
