Job Description

About the role:

The Research Scientist I of Core Biology, based in San Diego, will contribute to in vitro pharmacology/drug discovery efforts, employ cutting-edge technologies in the areas of molecular genetics and functional genomics, and lead to the initiation of formal drug discovery campaigns by Takeda Research. The Scientist I designs methodologies and conducts experiments in functional genomics and patient genetics studies, whether internally or externally, to initiate Takeda’s drug discovery programs.

How you will contribute:
  • Develops cell assays and conducts genome-wide CRISPR library screens and compound screens using manual and automated methods.
  • Selects develops and performs quantitative cell culture assays using biochemical and imaging readouts to meet project team requirements.
  • Conducts FACS, ddPCR, qPCR and RT-PCR, ELISA, Western blot, and inculcate-cell viability assays.
  • Collects and analyzes and interprets data in the appropriate scientific context.
  • Carefully document results in databases and in written and oral scientific reports.
  • Proactively builds external relationships and collaborations that supplement the group’s internal capabilities.
  • Supports an overall group culture that is agile, proactive, collaborative, innovative, and externally facing.
  • Strong interpersonal, and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, matrix environment, and the ability to work through conflicts.
  • Highly motivated and flexible with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Ability to provide novel creative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Desire to learn and tackle new challenges and initiatives.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline.
  • MS with 6+ years’ experience.
  • BS with 8+ years of experience.
  • Extensive experience with cell culture techniques including growing cell lines, transfections, and lentivirus transduction is required.
  • Hands-on molecular and pharmacological experience utilizing cutting-edge techniques: molecular biology, recombinant expression, gene expression, PCR, EGFP fluorescence analysis, IHC, tissue isolation, homogenization, lysate prep, immunoprecipitation, and RNA purification.
