By focusing R&D efforts on four therapeutic areas and other targeted investments, we push the boundaries of what is possible in order to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide.

Join Takeda as an Associate Scientific Director where you will lead efforts focused on establishing the mechanism of action (MOA) of drug candidates for the treatment of chronic liver diseases. You will also design and implement MOA and biomarker-discovery projects in collaboration with internal research teams, external partners, and/or CROS and be a scientific thinker with a strong understanding of the molecular/cellular basis of liver fibrosis as evidenced by publications and/or drug development experience. As part of the Liver Disease Research team, you will report to the Head of Liver Disease Research and work with Gastroenterology Drug Discovery Unit (GI DDU) as a collaborative scientist, who acts as a senior scientific consultant to and/or leader of research and clinical-stage cross-functional project teams.

How you will contribute:
  • Develop and oversee scientific projects and manage the work of others in a matrixed structure.
  • Lead efforts to determine the mechanism of action and/or discovery of a translational biomarker for drug candidates using state-of-the-art methods and tools.
  • Be the scientific leader and target champion on cross-functional drug development teams and provide technical leadership in areas of expertise.
  • Support and/or identify BD opportunities that support specific projects and the overall liver portfolio development strategy.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, and quantitative analyses.
  • Be the scientific mentor and thought leader.
  • Communicate with colleagues and senior management.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline with 7+ years of experience researching the molecular/cellular basis of complex diseases and/or molecular pharmacology of biologics, therapeutic antibodies, or oligonucleotide-based therapeutics.
  • Experience with complex biological systems gained from studies of embryonic development, disease pathogenesis, or pre-clinical therapeutic mechanisms of action or biomarker discovery, with a preference for liver biology.
  • Solve scientific problems using multiple, state-of-the-art technologies and approaches.
  • Demonstrate exceptional project management skills and in-depth expertise in a scientific discipline.
  • Expertise in the design and execution of in vivo studies for evaluating liver-related biology, NASH/fibrosis pathophysiology, and/or biomarker discovery in liver diseases.
  • Knowledge of animal models of liver disease, NASH, and fibrosis.
  • Expertise in one therapeutic modality or biomarker discovery (small molecules, antibodies, biologics, ASOs/siRNA) and familiarity with the other modalities.
  • Requires approximately 15-20% or more travel, including international travel.

What Takeda can offer you:
