Moderna is seeking an experienced x-ray crystallography Senior Manager to function in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This position is based at the Moderna Norwood site reporting to Associate Director leading the Structural Biology Team. The Sr. Manager will help develop and implement structural characterization workflow to support the advancement of Modernas mRNA technology platform. S/he/they should be able to apply various structural/biophysical/biochemical techniques and work in a highly collaborative, dynamic, and interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate is expected to have hands-on experience including crystallography hardware operation and maintenance, sample management (crystal freezing and shipment), data acquisition at synchrotrons, data storage and processing. In addition, the Sr. Manager will work closely and collaboratively with the associated cryo-EM facility to maximize the output of the collective structural biology efforts in Moderna.
Heres What Youll Do:

Carry out protein crystallization trials and optimize logistics of crystal management for synchrotron data collection
Keep up to date with x-ray crystallography technologies
Manage agreements with synchrotrons and contract research organizations
Support compliance with safety and lab procedures; partner with EH&S and lab users to support new lab safety initiatives
Working closely with service engineers to achieve high performance of crystallography instruments while minimizing downtime
Collaborate with IT department to upkeep data management
General laboratory assistance, including x-ray crystallography and biochemistry lab equipment maintenance. Source, stock and inventory of crystallography supplies.
Organize space to meet short/long term objectives
Careful record keeping, data organization and presentation
Provide cross support to the associated cryo-EM facility

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:
A PhD degree in physical sciences with at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience of x-ray crystallography; industry experience desirable but not a must; laboratory oversight experience a plus. Alternatively, candidates with a MS degree in physical sciences with more than 7-8 years of relevant crystallography experience will be considered
Hands on experience with crystallization instruments, including crystallization robot operation, crystal growth monitoring using automated camera system, freezing crystals for shipment, data acquisition at synchrotrons, and data processing using sophisticated software packages.
Experience with negative-stain electron microscope and/or cryo-electron microscopy is a plus
Excellent skills and ability to work and communicate efficiently in a multicultural highly dynamic and matrixed environment
