We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist in the New Technology Group within the Formulation Development Group (FDG) to support activities in building capabilities for Lipid nanoparticle-based delivery platforms within FDG and support the development of therapeutic modalities with focus on RNA-based therapeutics.

The New Technology Group in FDG supports development of multiple novel technologies, platforms & modalities and impacts key therapeutic areas such as Ophthalmology, Infectious diseases, Oncology, and Immunology. Complex drug products as such tend to present unique challenges that requires additional and unique product development efforts.  Additionally, these research and development efforts in the field of genetic medicine also require relevant expertise to support the required technical & platform development efforts of the newly established as well as evolving strategies. The position will be to supporting successful Lipid Nanoparticle technology development efforts for novel modalities (LNP, RNA therapeutics) and ensure optimal product quality in collaboration with potential internal (FDG, Ophthalmology) and external collaborators.

A day as a Scientist looks like:

  • Support and assist in formulation, characterization, and stability activities for LNP delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics for different routes of administration (IV, IM, SC, SCS etc.)
  • Provide key support to build formulation capabilities for lipid nanoparticles in FDG that would be used as a platform to deliver RNA therapeutics
  • Work and collaborate in multi-functional teams to support formulation, process development, toxicology, and PK/PD studies
  • Collect, process and analyze data, and participate in data presentations to the management
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing technical protocols/reports
  • Apply strong problem-solving skills and flexible to changing priorities as required
  • Document experiments, results, and findings in electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Complete project plans supported by strong scientific rationales and technical approaches, while cognizant of project priorities, and deliverables (e.g. memos, reports) and timeouts.

This role may be for you if:

  • Strong understanding and hands-on lab experience in evaluation of formulation and drug delivery for proteins and oligonucleotides, nanoparticulate systems, liposome drug delivery systems etc.
  • Hands-on experience in HPLC/UPLC, UV-Vis, fluorescence, viscometer, chromatography, electrophoresis (cIEF, MCE-SDS, SDS-PAGE), TEM, DLS, Zetaview and imaging/microscopy techniques (MFI, SEM) and other analytical techniques relevant for LNP & RNA characterization is preferred.
  • Understanding of statistical approaches and software packages for data analysis and design of experiments (DOE) for analytical method development and/or formulation development.
  • Strong initiative and drive to complete ambitious tasks and proactively learn new technologies related to Lipid Nanoparticle Formulation Development.

To be considered for this role, we require a BS with 8+ years or MS with 5+ years of industry experience in Pharmaceutics, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology or related is preferred. Background in nanoparticle-based formulation development & relevant analytical characterization is preferred.. Experience in general biologics product development including understanding of formulation, process and characterization fundamentals is desired. Consistent record in handling a variety of analytical techniques preferred.

Salary Range (annually)

$103,600.00 - $169,000.00
