JOB PURPOSE:
Pacific Biosciences (NASDAQ: PACB) is seeking a Technical Product Manager to join our Software team in the Development Engineering group and help create world class DNA sequencing platforms for life science researchers and human health applications. In this role, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to help translate higher level product requirements into design inputs and detailed software requirements for our sequencing platforms. This individual will work closely and support multiple software and test teams. For this role, the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment will be critical.

This role is in the Development Engineering group and will work closely with product marketing, program management, and systems engineering teams. The role will include coaching engineering teams on clarifying requirements, designs, documentation, and plans. This role will ensure epics and stories are ready and are synchronized with and flow from product and design input requirements. This role will identify cross-team architectural issues and dependencies and ensure consistency and documentation, perform risk analysis to inform test strategies, and develop process diagrams and wireframes to effectively communicate and visualize ideas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams (Development, Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Chemistry, Semiconductor, UX, Manufacturing, and Customer Support Teams) to transform product requirements into actionable software requirements.
  • Write formal, high-quality, and scalable software requirement specifications.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, including architecture, interface specifications, system configurations, and other design history documents.
  • Perform Risk Analysis to evaluate various technical solutions and inform testing.
  • Generate workflow / process diagrams and wireframes to help teams visualize ideas.
  • Demonstrated skills in following areas: problem solving, conflict resolution, and customer and stakeholder interactions.
  • Define and implement processes that optimize efficiency within the Software Development Team.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of Software Systems Engineer experience or equivalent.
  • BS, MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment, manage competing demands and deal with delays or unexpected events.
  • Accurately document systems and methods, and able to create flowcharts, diagrams, manuals, and other documentation.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills including the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner as well as gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Experience with Scrum and Kanban development processes.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and conflict resolution skills.
  • Collaborates, builds relationships, and influences team members to work toward common goals.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) a plus
  • Experience with Wireframing and Workflow tools (OmniGraffle, Microsoft Visio, Gliffy, Figma, Balsamiq) a plus
  • Experience developing complex instrumentation and interfacing with hardware, chemistry, and biology teams in the life science industry is a plus

Salary Range:

$110,500.00 - $149,500.00
