PacBio is looking for a highly motivated and detailed oriented Research Associate to help develop, commercialize, and transfer cutting-edge sequencing product into manufacturing. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the development and Manufacturing teams to facilitate the transition of products from development to operations. The candidate must be a team player with a strong technical background in assay development and molecular biology tools. The candidate will exhibit a strong interest in working/leading in a fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on lab experience in assay development, Next-gen Sequencing technology, HPLC and plate-based assays.
  • Develop manufacturing processes, analytical assays for quality control, and specifications for new reagents.
  • Contribute to writing plans, reports, batch records, work instructions, and documenting newly developed processes.
  • Contributes to protocol development, design and optimization. Develops expertise and may be in charge of various methods and procedures. Collects and organizes data and performs basic data analysis using standard methods.
  • Works closely and regularly with professional scientists. Communicate with team members to determine methods and procedures on new assignments. Communicates technical results verbally, through data analysis and through presentations in small group settings.
  • The candidate will work under general supervision for this on-site position in San Diego.

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4-6 years of related experience and a Bachelor's degree in related areas (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology). Alternatively requires a Master's degree in related areas and 2-4 years of professional experience. Relevant industry experience in Life Sciences, Medical Devices/Diagnostics, or commercialization of molecular biology kits is plus.
  • A degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline.
  • Solid knowledge of molecular biology techniques, enzymes, nucleic acids, analytical methods, and process validation.
  • Knowledge of Next-Generation Sequencing techniques with hands-on experience with NGS and data analysis tools (R/Python) is preferred.
  • Understanding of product/process development, product transfer, and manufacturing of reagent kits.
  • Organized and critical thinker who can succeed in a fast-paced environment and span roles from hands-on lab work to leading projects.
  • Experience in quality and regulatory standards and requirements, a plus.

Salary Range:

$66,300.00 - $89,700.00
