We are looking for a dedicated and collaborative tax controversy professional, to join a dynamic tax organization advising a rapidly growing company that develops and commercializes life-transforming medicines. The Senior Director, Global Tax Controversy will be responsible for all of Regeneron’s tax controversy matters, and will be a critical member of the tax team providing technical input on planning and expansion projects. This is a strategic leadership role, that will have direct contact with Regeneron’s business leads and senior management. The Senior Director, Global Tax Controversy will build out the tax controversy function, establishing a foundation of excellence for Regeneron’s expansion and positive relationships with tax authorities in the years ahead.

As the Senior Director, Global Tax Controversy, a typical day may include:

  • Leading Regeneron’s U.S. federal, state and foreign tax controversy strategy and procedure (e.g., audits, appeals, litigation, advance rulings, mutual agreement procedures, co-operative compliance), including serving as Regeneron’s representative with the IRS and other tax authorities.

  • Developing and maintaining global tax risk management processes to mitigate future audit exposure, including strategic input on current initiatives, reviewing technical positions, assessment of accounting reserves, and implementation of processes and policies including oversight and preparation of audit-ready files.

  • Researching, reviewing and / or drafting documentation involving complex tax issues and strategies, including but not limited to tax technical memoranda, operating manuals and corporate policies, and intercompany and third-party agreements.

  • Coordinating and collaborating with subject matter experts both within the tax team and at external advisors, as well as collaborating with partners across the business, to provide technical support as may be required in an exhilarating business environment.

  • Ensuring consistency in approach between federal, state and foreign audits, planning initiatives and reporting positions, including with respect to intercompany arrangements, tax planning initiatives, business development initiatives and tax reporting positions.

  • Collaborating with personnel from all areas of the Company to educate colleagues about the tax organization and processes, as well as to collect and analyze data necessary for audit defense and supporting documentation.

This role might be for you if:

  • You have the personal drive and enthusiasm to understand and successfully navigate a fast-growing company in a constantly evolving marketplace.

  • You have a hands-on and entrepreneurial style – someone who looks to become personally involved in all elements of managing their functional responsibility through to the end of projects

  • You are a strategic problem solver, able to define and develop a clear picture of future direction and objectives for the function and develop comprehensive implementation plans.

  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan and implement at strategic and tactical levels.

  • You establish strong relationships and have organizational and interpersonal skills, to contribute to a collaborative environment that fosters open communication and a culture of excellence, integrity and accountability for a growing team.

  • You have excellent communication skills, and enjoy working with personnel at all levels of the global organization, including senior leadership; you are able to explain complex technical issues and requirements to non-tax colleagues and leaders.

The ideal candidate for this role will have 15+ years of relevant experience in a corporate environment, law firm or accounting firm. You are required to have a JD or equivalent, with an MBA, LLM or Master’s degree being a “plus”. You have experience and technical competency in tax controversy, tax planning and tax strategy, including exposure to international structures, business models and global complexity. You are experienced in partnering closely with all aspects of tax management including U.S. federal income tax law, international income tax law, state and local tax law, and foreign and domestic sales tax law.
