Facilities Project Manager I (Part-Time/Temporary)

General Summary:

The Southern Research (SR) Master Campus Plan Project Manager serves as the key point of contact for the various projects that fall within the Master Campus Plan (MCP). This role assists with the planning, preparation and execution of key elements of the MCP to ensure an on time, on budget delivery that meets the growth and strategic needs of SR. This part-time/temporary role also assists with planning for and supporting existing renovations to reduce the deferred maintenance of SR.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as key SR contact for the master campus plan. Responsible for project management and deliverables on facilities capital projects. Responsible for establishing and tracking project and program timelines and milestones.
  • Supports major internal capital projects to reduce deferred maintenance.
  • Leads the furniture and equipment purchases to align with capital project plans.
  • Coordinates requirement gathering and feedback sessions from internal and external stakeholders to ensure capital projects meet SR needs.
  • Manages the capital project budgets, tracks expenditures and helps ensure that projects are on budget.
  • Uses sound engineering economic principles to recommend and deliver the best cost options on capital improvement projects for the Institute.
  • Coordinates facilities projects with finance and procurement for bid processes and contract execution. 
  • Ensures robust documentation for project tracking, purchases, expenses.
  • Ensures strong communication on prep and impact of capital project work to internal and external stakeholders. Facilitates regular discussions about project status, and issues that may have an impact on the schedule.
  • Assures adherence to schedules by interacting effectively with and providing information to various staff and client groups; prompts individuals and groups of needed results and approaching deadlines; and coordinates needs of one group or person with those of another group or person.
  • Schedules and runs project meetings spanning multiple Divisions and Institutions.
  • Captures project meeting minutes and action items to circulate to project team members.
  • Works directly with senior staff to compile and submit project progress reports.
  • Alerts management of project overruns, missed deadlines, and any challenges that could have an impact on timelines and deliverable quality.
  • Assists with the preparation of site visits for consultants.
  • Attends and/or participates in meetings and/or teleconferences in support of assigned projects.
  • Ensures prompt resolution and communication of issues associated with assigned projects; he or she will work with the broader team to resolve such issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the VP of Operations
  • Operates with SR values.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six years of related experience. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of project management.
  • Prior demonstration of ability to successfully manage multiple standalone projects or parts of larger projects.
  • Knowledge of software applications, particularly those that run on the Microsoft (MS) Windows operating system, including Word, Access, Excel, and other programs; expert knowledge of MS Project is a plus.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; must be able to communicate difficult information with high level of decorum and tactfulness.
  • Highly detail oriented with good planning, organization, task-efficiency, and time-management skills.
  • Understand the importance of providing high-quality customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Must possess a general knowledge of Project Management principles.
