About Gilead in Netherlands

The Netherland is a high performing affiliate which is part of ACE MM countries ( like Belgium, Austria, Nordics and many others); The Gilead Government Affairs team is and will be involved in high profiles projects in order to achieve our long term strategy to become a partner of choice

The role

As the Director of Government Affairs for The Netherlands you will be expected to perform the following tasks as part of the Netherlands affiliate Leadership Team:

Leadership
  • As a member of the Australia, Canada and Europe's (ACE) Midsize Market Government Affairs Team, you will provide thought leadership to the Dutch team and GM in terms of the evolving policy environment and potential impact on Gilead and contribute actively to the development and success of the organisation and the business
  • Manage Government Affairs' stakeholders (including government, parliament and regional stakeholders) and ensure they fully understand of Gilead's priorities
  • Shape relevant policy debates in areas of interest for Gilead


Core Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and coordinate strategies, initiatives, operations, and activities related to national and regional health and pharmaceutical policy and legislation to support the objectives of the Dutch affiliate .
  • Partner with external stakeholders and create a positive reputation for Gilead Sciences among national and regional parliamentarians and members of the government, advisors and the political environment, for the purpose of facilitating and enhancing Gilead's mission
  • Work collaboratively and align with other members of government affairs department as well as other Gilead departments in The Netherlands and internationally. Ensure that government affairs initiatives and policy objectives are fully aligned with Gilead's business priorities , and help Gilead identify opportunities to work with policymakers to advance its mission
  • Develop and steer Gilead's local governmental affairs policy, strategy and agenda
  • Monitor the legislative/regulatory environment with the objective of providing Gilead's management with sophisticated information and options on dealing with developments so that the Gilead interests are achieved


Requirements
  • Strong executive presence with ability to command respect through experience internally and externally
  • Excellent understanding of the political and business environment and implement an active contact programme with political stakeholders
  • Typically requires a BSc or BA degree and with significant prior experience in government, government affairs, public affairs or policy role. A MA or MSc degree or MBA and relevant experience is preferred
  • Track record of being a trusted team player with the local leadership team
  • Cross-functional collaboration and accountability are key to success in this position
  • Fluent in Dutch and English
  • In-depth knowledge of the Dutch healthcare system and key policies (HIV, hepatitis C and D, oncology and COVID-19-therapies) relevant for pharmaceutical market access for highly innovative medicines is essential
  • Exceptional level of influencing and managing relationships within and outside of Gilead to develop, implement and coordinate the Government Affairs strategy for the Dutch affiliate
  • Proven ability in delivering successful/favourable policy and advocacy results, requires a strong track record of experience in implementing projects with defined outcomes in government, a government affairs, public affairs or policy role
  • Extensive experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries preferred
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills and sound business judgment and analytical skills
  • Solid and trusted advisor, both internally and externally
  • Experience of budget and cost centre management
