The Role

The Sr. Director, Market Access & Pricing -Rare Diseases, is a senior role in the MA&P and HEOR organization leading and coordinating all activities aimed at building, shaping and expanding access, achieving reimbursement and institutional channel commercialisation for Modernas new products in Rare Diseases. They will work on pipeline products in Rare Diseases with a near-term focus of Moderna Rare Disease portfolio in close collaboration with R&D strategy, Commercial NPP and Program teams. The Sr. Director Market Access & Pricing Therapeutics will be responsible to set the LRP, forecast and provide early program design and price recommendations and will also drive the cross functional effort in the MA&P and HEOR organization and represent the integrated Payer perspective. This person will also be responsible for providing institutional costumer perspectives including payers and HTA bodies into the design of clinical development program.

Heres What Youll Do

  • Leading the early Market Access and Pricing activities for pipeline products in Rare Diseases with a near-term focus of Moderna Rare Disease portfolio and subsequent institutional commercialization

  • Monitoring and anticipating the evolving market access, institutional customer, and competitive landscape and advocating Modernas position with respect to Market Access strategy

  • Contributing to the globalization of our therapeutics to populations across new and emerging markets

  • Defining of the pricing, tendering, contracting and life-cycle strategies in close alignment with global colleagues.

  • Ensuring robust value generation and pricing practices, protocols and operations to ensure an efficient and compliant organization. They will work hand in hand with global functions including Operations, HEOR, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs and the Brand Teams, to ensure the global strategy can be executed locally

  • Serving as a key support for the VP Global MA&P and HEOR in driving key environmental shaping initiatives through the industry association and payer networks.

  • Providing program design (TPP), development plan, market access and pricing recommendations for early products, in partnership with brand leads, commercial, R&D

  • Defining the optimal early Pricing & Access strategies, Tendering and Contract Strategies in partnership with Commercial, R&D, Medical and Government affairs

  • Utilizing in depth knowledge of fundamental principles underpinning pharmaceutical industry pricing and access at the different phases of the product lifecycle to make recommendations to business on the selection of appropriate approaches

  • Informing price-setting through pricing research using relevant analytical approaches (game-theory, behavioral economic insights), pricing research methods (Conjoint, Probabilistic, Van Westendorp, etc.)

  • Determining optimal Value-Based or Market Based pricing strategies through the application of price setting methodologies, product label and internal product positioning

  • Utilizing in depth knowledge of innovative pricing models and managed entry schemes to address payer needs

  • Generating pricing solutions for affordability considerations including innovative funding and payment mechanisms

  • Defining and executing early access strategies and relevant programs

  • Setting optimal pricing and contracting strategy per market segments in strong collaboration with global market access and local pricing/access teams

  • Developing the Global Pricing Policy and associated pricing story

  • Providing pricing & access guidance and insights to commercial; supports strategic plans, budget and brand plan exercises with robust pricing and access assumptions

Key Deliverables/Output of this Role Include:

  • Setting strategic direction and ensuring implementation of pricing, tendering, contracting strategies and value evidence plans for Modernas products across therapy areas that will achieve equitable and profitable market access and achieve population health objectives

  • Delivering Market Access, Pricing and HEOR input into strategic planning processes and decision gates such as TTP, Development Plan, Brand Plan, Launch Strategy

  • Market Access, Pricing and HEOR Strategies and associated deliverables

  • Partnering effectively with global support functions and countries to execute on core deliverables

  • Acting as a functional leader for market access activities that include, but are not limited to, assessing market access needs/trends, and developing and executing required market access strategies to optimize market access, adoption, and commercial success

  • Responsibility for global payer strategic planning to support value and access optimization for relevant development considerations

  • Ensuring robust pricing practices, tendering, contracting protocols and operations to ensure an efficient and compliant organization

  • Contributing to annual brand planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes

  • Supporting policy shaping activities by providing robust analysis and a strong payer value proposition

  • Developing deep knowledge of competitor access strategies and proactively implement counter plans that anticipate and out manoeuvre competition

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • M.S. / MBA required

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the bio/pharmaceutical and/or vaccines environment.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Market Access function (with national direct responsibility for Pricing, Reimbursement, Market Access, or Policy)

  • Strong Scientific background and understanding and experience in early pipeline products

  • Experience in providing TPP, development plan and market access/early price recommendations

  • Experience developing and leading implementation of strategic pricing, tendering, contracting and negotiation. Experience required in global pricing policy development

  • Advanced degree in life science preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of evidence-based medicine standards, patient reported outcomes, global and local healthcare policies and their developments, key pricing & market access regulations and practices in US (essential), Japan, Germany and UK international pricing interdependencies, health technology assessment, economics of healthcare systems, economic flows, drivers and barriers for healthcare providers, outcomes-based pricing & contracting agreements, payer-relevant value-added services

  • Proven ability to develop external networks

  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively engage internal and external audiences

  • Strong sense of priorities and able to handle various projects simultaneously, sometimes with short timelines

  • Experience working with industry groups and alliances

  • Strong diplomatic & interpersonal skills and able to inspire respect and trust from others

  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence without authority

  • Additional language is desirable
