Job Details

Company Description

Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

Position

The Software Engineer II, High-throughput Tracking will contribute to the development, productionization, and extension of custom computer vision and probabilistic inference algorithms, including algorithms for extracting dynamical information about single molecules in live cell images. They will interface with biologists, medicinal chemists, microscopists, and optical engineers to explain our custom algorithms and their outputs, and understand the company’s needs for future methods which they will then contribute to implementing.

About You

You have a passion for working with experimentalists to understand how imaging data are being used for biomedical investigation, and for implementing efficient algorithms to extract the information experimentalists need. You are an excellent communicator, able to explain how the solutions you provide meet those needs. You have a deep understanding of probability, stochastic processes, and mathematical optimization, and you are excited at the prospect of extending your understanding into new areas and tackling unsolved problems. You are comfortable developing software at all levels of technical maturity, from proof-of-concept to production.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of computer vision and probabilistic inference algorithms to enable Eikon’s drug discovery programs
  • Integrate high-impact optimizations into our production pipelines
  • Work collaboratively with scientists and engineers to understand tactical needs, prototype and then productionize software to keep experiments moving forward

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Physics, Math, Applied Math, or Computer Science
  • Extensive foundational understanding of probability, stochastic processes, discrete math, Fourier analysis, and numerical optimization
  • Three or more years experience writing professional Python code a must; C++ proficiency strongly desired
  • Previous encounters with combinatorial optimization (especially unbalanced assignment) a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented, flexible, able to adapt to rapidly evolving goals and challenges
  • Willingness to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area if necessary

At Eikon, employee compensation also includes bonus and equity compensation, in addition to several generous benefit programs, including:

  • 401k plan with company matching
  • Medical (premiums covered by Eikon at 95%), dental and vision insurance (premiums covered by Eikon at 100%)
  • Mental health and wellness benefits
  • Weeklong summer and winter holiday shutdowns
  • Generous paid time off and holiday policies
  • Life/AD&D Insurance (premiums covered by Eikon at 100%) and optional supplemental employee-paid life/AD&D policies
  • Enhanced parental leave benefit
  • Daily subsidized lunch program when on-site

The expected salary range for this role is $122,000 to $140,000 depending on skills, competency, and the market demand for your expertise.

Company

Eikon is a pioneering drug discovery and development company that leverages superior engineering and high-performance computing to analyze single molecule protein behavior in living cells. We are engineering a battery of innovative tools and technologies for biological exploration in drug discovery and beyond.

Eikon thrives on the energy and creativity of interdisciplinary teams. We are physicists and chemists, biologists and engineers. We spend our days context-switching between multiple scientific languages. We work with lasers, super-resolution microscopes, and robot arms. We leverage machine learning, cell line engineering, and the collective intelligence of world-class scientists and technologists to observe therapeutically relevant biology in a way no one has before.

We’re endlessly curious, intellectually honest and we love what we do. We’re driven to learn the true mechanisms of biology and pharmacology at the molecular level, to make the biggest difference in as many lives as possible.
