Senior R&D Project & Portfolio Operations Manager

The Sr Project & Portfolio Operations Manager is part of a team responsible for the enablement and support of R&D project and portfolio management capabilities, including schedule management, resource management, financial management, portfolio management, and performance reporting. This role will be responsible for supporting Global Project Managers and teams to effectively plan and manage Research, Development, and Life Cycle Management/CMC programs. The role reports to the Head of R&D Project and Portfolio Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provides trusted guidance and support to Global Project Managers in building quality program schedules that adhere to established standards and best practices.
• Ensures high quality plans are created and maintained to effectively manage program execution, measure performance, and enable decision quality.
• Executes project operations activities including project set-up, schedule build and maintenance support, baselining, report generation, and project closure.
• Provides ad hoc systems administration and support to end-users requiring assistance.
• Supports the continuous improvement, design and maintenance of PM toolsets, including schedule templates, work package libraries, and project report templates.
• Develops and leads training sessions for new Project Managers on the use of PM toolsets, processes, and standards.
• Leads improvement initiatives from concept through implementation, employing excellent project management, stakeholder management, and change management discipline.
• Contributes to the definition of project management methodologies and standards that govern project planning, execution, and reporting.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• An advanced degree (MSc, PhD), PMP certification, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent is a plus.

EXPERIENCE

• 5+ years’ experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
• Working knowledge of drug research, development and manufacturing processes of pharmaceuticals (discovery research, non-clinical, clinical, regulatory, CMC).
• Strong project scheduling expertise utilizing scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project.
• Experience managing clinical or development programs in R&D strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience operating as a subject matter expert, providing training and support on systems, tools, and processes, to set up team members for success.
• Enterprise Program Management Office (PMO) experience a plus.
• Proficient in the use of enterprise Project Management, Business Intelligence, and reporting tools such as Microsoft Project, Clarity PPM, Qlik Sense, or similar.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a project manager leading cross-functional project teams in a matrixed, global environment, including those with complex technical, geographic, and/or regulatory elements.
