As part of Nektar Biologics CMC organization, the Biologics Analytical Development department is responsible for product characterization, analytical method development/method qualification of proteins and protein-conjugates for Nektar biologic products in pre-clinical and clinical development stages. The Sr Research Associate collaborates with others on analytical issues relevant to long-term objectives and concerns; and develops testing methodologies to support process development of drug substance and drug product. This position contributes to and supports the company’s research development and manufacturing to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Under general supervision, executes on assigned tasks following appropriate laboratory/technical procedures.
  • Reviews outside literature, develops an interpretation and may make suggestions for direction. Produces competent, reproduce-able results to a high technical standard.
  • Makes detailed observations and analyzes data to provide an interpretation of results.
  • Assists with the investigation, creation and development of methods, experiments and/or technologies for project advancement.
  • Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to help solve semi-routine technical problems.
  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and/or quantitative analyses.
  • Maintains accurate and well-organized laboratory records, worksheets and notebooks.
  • Under general supervision, executes on assigned tasks following appropriate laboratory/technical procedures.
  • Maintains current training requirements.
  • Maintains compliance to company Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures and practices.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline is required. Equivalent experience may be accepted. A minimum of 6 years work experience in a research and/or development environment is required. Must have excellent analytical skills, with significant hands-on laboratory experience in various analytical techniques, i.e., HPLC, Spectroscopy and plate based assays etc. Working knowledge of method development, method qualifications and method transfers is desirable. Knowledge in SDS/native-PAGE is a plus.

Must have a demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles in the field of analytical  chemistry.  Must be able to demonstrate good decision-making skills. Must possess good oral and written communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate sound judgment. Must have demonstrated problem solving abilities. Strong organizational skills are required. Good computer skills are required. Working knowledge of MS word, Excel, Power point is a plus. Experience working in an FDA regulated environment is highly desired. Must be willing to work as part of a team and demonstrate good interpersonal skills.

Nektar Therapeutics (Nektar) currently anticipates the base salary for the Research Associate III position in our San Francisco office could range from $86,000 to $124,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience.  This position will also be eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan (depending, in part, on company and individual performance and at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis). The compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described based on market survey data.
