We are growing our locations and are investing more than $2 billion into establishing a new large-scale manufacturing site for biopharmaceuticals in the United States to accelerate the growth of our Bio CDMO (Contract and Development Manufacturing Organization) business. This will be the largest end-to-end cell culture CDMO provider in North America. The new site will offer end-to-end solutions to our customers looking to manufacture biopharmaceuticals in the US. In addition to drug substance manufacture, it will also provide automated fill-finish and assembly, packaging, and labeling services. The new state-of-the-art facility is located in Holly Springs, North Carolina, United States.


 


The Senior Utility Tech role will serve as systems SME representative for construction activities for the clean and black utility team work packages, participate in system FATs and walk downs and be a key contributor to systems start-up and operation.  In addition, the qualified candidate will provide system technical support for the CQV team for start-up and commissioning of utility systems and will ensure a smooth transition from construction to operations. During operations the Senior Utility Tech will support daily operations and maintenance teams. Actively involved with field implementation of equipment and process improvements. This role will serve as a higher-level troubleshooter of systems in support of the maintenance and instrumentation technicians.  Work with system engineers and reliability engineers to support equipment enhancements and projects. Actively support the operations and engineering teams as needed.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:



  • Provide technical expertise for black and clean utilities during walkdown, FAT and start-up activities.

  • Procedure development for operations and maintenance

  • Cost, quality & schedule adherence for their area of responsibility during construction and start-up.

  • Develop & maintain positive working relationship with internal & external engineering teams and stakeholders

  • Operate, troubleshoot and identify improvements of utility equipment

  • Assist in maintenance & optimization of assigned equipment systems.


Essential Functions:



  • Ability to operate and maintain utility systems (clean and black)

  • Hands on equipment and operation, maintenance and optimization.

  • Monitor and operate process control systems equipment in assigned process/utility areas

  • Troubleshoot, maintain & identify system improvements.

  • Provide technical support for site project execution as required.

  • Adhere to all Quality & Environmental & EH&S regulations within area of responsibility

  • Maintain & establish standards for procedures & maintenance plans.

  • Support all design, installation, commissioning, qualification, training activities for assigned area.

  • Communicate and work alongside equipment and service vendors

  • Develop & implement reliability driven maintenance & monitoring plans & practices, including oversight of 3rd party service providers

  • Continuous process improvement using LEAN concepts.


Required Skills& Abilities:



  • Proficiency in Black Utilities, Clean Utilities and/or waste systems to include: purified water, clean steam, process air, boilers, chillers, compressors, cooling towers, waste systems, chemical storage & distribution systems, solvent distillation.

  • Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with a basic understanding of P&ID, PFD, electrical systems & equipment schematics.

  • Understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT, Commissioning & Validation Protocols.

  • Strong knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CCMS/CMMS), preferably INFOR.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, be self-motivated and possess interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience applying these skills to resolve technical problems.​

  • Ability to coordinate, facilitate and organize resources in an efficient manner.

  • Desire to work in a fast paced, state of the art, alternately research and customized manufacturing facility.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of cGMP and cGDP requirements and procedures desired


Qualifications:



  • High School or GED, required, with 6 years of industrial/mechanical experience

  • Associates Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or other related technical field/equivalent with 4 years of industrial/mechanical experience, preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or other related technical field/equivalent with 2 years of industrial/mechanical experience, preferred


Preferred experience:



  • Previous Life Science, biotech or pharma experience, strongly preferred
