Job DescriptionOBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

Our Data Sciences Institute (DSI) is made up of more than 500 experts who harness the insight of data and digital to speed the development of highly innovative treatments for patients. These data and digital experts (from statistics, programming, outcomes research and epidemiology, quantitative clinical pharmacology, digital strategy, library sciences, and data architecture/governance) bring their expertise to our global program teams and re-imagine our disciplines. They work with novel data streams, including real-world data and digital tools, and apply advanced analytics including artificial intelligence and automation.
As part of DSI, the Applied Data Sciences and Learning group is looking to add individuals who are curious, team-oriented, and collaborative technical members who have a strong interest in data technologies, data flow, data storage, and science-driven data analytics.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
An Associate Director of Data Development will:
Determine bespoke data-driven projects through hands-on development of data engineering capabilities, exploration of new approaches to re-usable data engineering automation, and co-development of algorithms with R&D partner groups
Lead team members in translating scientific and business questions into next-generation data and analytic services
Seek out novel use cases within the R&D scientific organization, for the purpose of designing replicable, scalable, and secure manner for advanced data workflows
Remove technological constraints from researchers, scientists, and other experts in R&D
Seek out new perspectives and be proactive in opportunities to learn and apply skills and develop new talents
Stay alert to industry trends, designs, and alternate views and approaches across technology, science, and operations
CORE ELEMENTS RELATED TO THIS ROLE
Demonstrable history and capability in life/biological sciences, informing an understanding of the needs of groups in scientific endeavors and how technology may meet the requirements of specific avenues of experimentation
A deep interest and affinity to explore alternative approaches and solutions when necessary to address unmet needs through logical and rigorous experimentation
Experience in the use and application of software development, data engineering tools, toolkits, algorithms, and analytics to meet complex business needs
Awareness of data architectures and analytic approaches, computing models, and data structures to include relational, NoSQL, and graph structures, modern software languages, data security models, analytic environments, and DevOps tools

Hands-on expertise in software development, development tools, algorithms, and technologies of data architectures, data engineering, and data science
Familiarity with data architectures, big data designs, and emerging software architectures and services

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, or equivalent
10+ years experience or relevant project/coursework with significant experience in cloud-based architectures, algorithms, large-scale technical implementations, and interface design
Up-to-date specialized knowledge of data engineering, manipulation, and management of technologies to affect change across business units to include an understanding of advanced methodologies of data and software development (life sciences experience preferred)
Ability to manipulate voluminous data with different degrees of structuring across disparate sources to build and communicate actionable insights for internal or external parties.
Strong communication skills to convey and engage with others information and observations
Ability to work in an agile environment with high-quality deliverables
Base Salary Range: $143,500 to $205,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.
The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
This position is currently classified as “remote” in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.
