The Role: At BigHat Biosciences our machine learning stack is tightly integrated with a high-throughput wetlab to rapidly design and validate ML-engineered antibodies. Summer interns will work to push the boundaries of how effectively we can use this integrated platform combined with state of the art machine learning approaches to design new antibody therapeutics to address unmet patient need.

Key ResponsibilitiesPotential projects and responsibilities include:
- Development of novel biologically-informed, data-efficient predictive ML/DL models of protein properties
- Multi-objective / multi-task model building, spanning divergent dataset sizes and experimental modalities
- Development of improved featurization approaches, for example leveraging LLMs, to better model and optimize antibodies
- Design and testing of Bayesian optimization/active learning approaches
- ML driven optimization of wetlab processes
- Incorporating protein structural knowledge into the antibody engineering pipeline
- Working closely with structural biologists and antibody engineers to incorporate biological knowledge into models and derive such insights from models as appropriate
- Tackling tough technical challenges with guidance and mentorship from experienced experts in the field
About You
- Hands-on machine learning and software engineering experience
- Experience in Python and PyTorch is a must, demonstrated ability to design and implement novel deep learning / machine learning models beyond using existing packages
- Conversant biological domain knowledge, an eagerness to acquire more
- Experience in Bayesian optimization and/or active learning, computational biology, and protein modeling are a plus, as is greater experience from pursuing an advanced degree (MS/PhD)
- Excellent communication skills
